George Lucas Vs Michael Bay

George Lucas Vs Michael Bay

The question posed was who uses more CGI? I think Lucas has lost some cred because of the over use of graphics in Star Wars 1,2, & 3. Bay on the other hand has never been shy about displaying his love affair for them. So while Lucas may have been the creator, Bay has only taken them to the next level in usage.

What say you?

Lucas wins this, especially since Micheal Bay has yet (I cannot stress “yet” enough) to re-release his older projects with updated CGI. What Lucas did in 1997 will echo for eternity.

    Michael Bay presents:

Bay simply doesn’t have the level of epic to match with what Lucas has accomplished. The man built an empire out of a single idea. He is the most successfull individual with the least amount of work, and giving birth to the CGI Gorgon that is Industrial Light and Magic should be more than enough to win this bout.

I gotta give props to the man who created one of the most famous Sci-fi franchises in history, and who practically funded the creation of CGI. The fact that he funds his own movies is a testament to his success.

And like mata said, Bay has one big thing going for him, and it is certainly explosions. And while destruction is entertainment in its own way, Lucas has too much over Bay.

    I did like Transformers tho…

Oh noes! A Man is making money from a franchise he started and owns the rights to!

Whatever shall we (As free capitalists) do about it?!

well micheal bay only does explosions. I watched a south park episode where the made fun of him b\c of it. Lucas wins alomst soley on star wars yet there wasnt too much animation but more than normal in 1 , 2,3but Lucas opened doors to future box office movies

Lord of the Rings. Actually, I know many people who aren’t even aware of the basic plot of Star Wars, while nearly everyone has actually seen LotR.

“Lucas wins alomst soley on star wars yet there wasnt too much animation but more than normal in 1 , 2,3″

Animation is only a small percentage in the world of Visual Effects and Motion Graphics. Some things are actually MUCH more important, yet you would very rarely know of their contributions to the films unless they are poor.

Ever spotted a bad ILM Matte Painting?

    @ matapiojo
yea that is true but but there si digital imiaging in most things my uncle helped produce a movie nothing big but they amount of digital imaging was used to cover up the mistakes of others. but on the star wars coment i mean by how many aliens were walking aound i dont think he has that many extras strutting around in alien suits.

yea a bad matte painting is a mess more of a bland if it was meant to look te way it does it looks like utter garbage i dotn think people are tought to use paint that way

Matte painting is still a fairly prominent part of stage design.

Yes, and you rarely notice it if you don’t know they’re doing it.

Nowadays, i’d say Bay is better, because Episode’s I,2 and 3 are frankly unwatchable if you’re over the age of six. Also, some of his additions to the old films are very puerile, especially in New Hope. Jabba FAIL.

As for Indy 4… It’s not so much the Fridge, but comedy gophers?!.. Jesus wept, and the Artoo oil slick in Revenge of the Sith… oh the shame of paying to see that… please kill me.

I got a kick out of Transformers, although it did go a bit OTT at points.

    And I liked The Island.

    Yes. I liked it.

Proves that Micheal bay is more awesome. George Lucas has no sense of humour (that I’m aware of)
