“Rogers! You’re up against an older agent who’s seen a lot of combat- he’s got some tricks so be on your guard!”

Can Snake actually fight Captain America on equal grounds? I know Metal Gear is absurd- but isn’t Snake only human or so?

If there’s one thing that fictional universes should’ve taught you by now, is that terms like “superhuman,” “peak human,” and “human” don’t really mean much. It’s just a fancy way of making their characters seem a certain way. Just like calling them “gods.”

That being said, I haven’t heard anything about him that makes me think he would be able to stand up to CA.

  3. Jake_Uzumaki September 22, 2015 at 12:26 am -      #3

I think Snake is above human but not by much, whereas Cap for all the talk of him being peak of human physical perfection is blatantly a low end superhuman.

Red Skull fires three bullets at a man across the room, Cap who was next to Red Skull (we see his shield right beside Skull) moves into a position in front of the man

he’s thrown his shield fast enough to intercept bullets
    i.imgur.com/zngloNp.jpg

And perhaps the most ludicrous throwing strength feat from Cap in the history of throwing strength feats, throwing the shield hard and fast enough to catch up to launched Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles, break Falcon’s restraints, continue past the missile and arch over to return to him. Even Nick Fury’s only response is “right I forgot this is fucking Captain America I’m talking about”

Seriously….I can’t even count the number of physical laws of the universe that fucking shield throw had to break to work out that way.

“isn’t Snake only human or so?”

Only human means about as much in Metal Gear as it does in Marvel or DC.
That said, dodging bullets should put him on the same scale RT/reflex wise but I don’t recall much regarding strength except for carrying the big ass railgun around
    static.giantbomb.com/uploads/original/0/944/201456-rail_gun_mgs_4.jpg

There is also the walked through a microwave scene which is blatantly superhuman endurance.

Throwing the shield throw a large truck the long way, which includes tearing through the engine block. Again, just ludicrous throwing strength.

Yet another ridiculous shield throw, cutting/knocking the turret off a Tiger Tank back in WW2. Quick background on this scan. it was originally from a cancelled series Astonishing Captain America which was later published as Legendary Captain America in 2013. Just putting that on record.

I was using it in our sense, by our standards Snake is more “human” and less “super”; he’s got some perks like the microwaves and the metal hand- but he’s not quite got the showings for people to go, “Ohmergerd he’s not human!”

  9. Alpha or Omega September 22, 2015 at 12:47 am -      #9

These are good feats ‘n all, but Cap doesn’t have a way to detect Snake.
All it takes is octocamo + stealth + headshot from out of view = dead Cap.

  10. Alpha or Omega September 22, 2015 at 12:51 am -      #10

    Snake is superhuman though.
He dodged close range bullet twice. Once during MGS, and once in MGS 2. He even dodged a railgun shot from 15-20 meters away
    /
He also did acrobatic stuff superhumans do in the Twin Snakes

  11. Jake_Uzumaki September 22, 2015 at 12:55 am -      #11

More like headshot=Cap gets up a few minutes later taps the leaving snake on the shoulder and busts his teeth out. He’s been shot in the head before
    static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/1/16715/3364363-cap+survives+bullet+to+head3.jpg
Unless Snake goes for maximum overkill with the railgun he’s not killing Cap with just a headshot.

  12. Alpha or Omega September 22, 2015 at 12:59 am -      #12

That didn’t answer my question on how Cap is going to detect Snake.
Also, his solid eye detects the person’s heartrate along with other body functions. Playing dead won’t work.

  13. Dmtl September 22, 2015 at 1:06 am -      #13

So isn’t this pretty much a non argument since we established in another duel that video game feats don’t count, and Snake is from a video game world?
    ———
Edit – This is in an abandoned walmart parking lot…CA wins.

    Octocamo works on concrete.

  15. Jake_Uzumaki September 22, 2015 at 1:10 am -      #15

    @Alpha
He’ll detect him by him being the only other person on the abandoned parking lot in the general area in front of him.
they are fighting in an abandoned parking lot so its not like Snake is starting out behind cover, unless he’s going to run away. He doesn’t get to start out cloaked

And he didn’t play dead, he was clinically dead for a few minutes according to the doctors and then he just got back up. The Super Soldier Serum is bs.

  16. Alpha or Omega September 22, 2015 at 1:20 am -      #16

Snake’s octocamo works with any surfaces.
    /
He can use smoke grenades as well.
    /
While that may fool Snake for a while, Snake’s soliton radar will just pick Captain America back on the radar.

  17. Ciridae Hunter September 22, 2015 at 1:21 am -      #17

If this was in a mall or in a city block this fight might be a 50/50 but in most scenarios all Cap has to do is throw his shield and -bam! No more Snake.

On that note, Snake’s standard gear is usually a dart gun, a knife, and (if we’re going with later part of each game that isn’t an overlong tutorial) an assault rifle of Russian or American origins. And a box.

Snake’s main tool is his stealth in this match since his CQC skills won’t mean much to Cap and any direct assault is nigh impossible unless he’s Winter Soldier material (he does have a metal arm now). Does Cap have any particular resistance to being tranquilized or drugged, because one headshot with the dart gun should bring Cap down a peg or two if not fully immobilized.

  18. Alpha or Omega September 22, 2015 at 1:27 am -      #18

Or Snake dodges the thrown shield and have octocamo blend with the ground.
    /
No, his current incarnation is the guns of the patriots which shows him keeping his gear and using later such as pulling a railgun from his @$$.
Don’t see why that was mentioned as his assault rifle does the job just as well.
    /
Snake doesn’t have a metal arm. That’s Venom Snake.

  19. Ciridae Hunter September 22, 2015 at 1:30 am -      #19

“Snake doesn’t have a metal arm”

Phantom Pain one does, but it could be a different Snake since that series does clone him after MG2 I think to apologize for Raiden

  20. Alpha or Omega September 22, 2015 at 1:34 am -      #20

The Snake you see in Phantom Pain is Venom Snake, not Solid Snake.

  21. Ciridae Hunter September 22, 2015 at 1:38 am -      #21

That’s why I said it could be a different Snake since that series of games was pretty flexible with the titles-Solid Snake, Naked Snake, Venom Snake, future convoluted prefix Snake and so on.

  22. Alpha or Omega September 22, 2015 at 1:40 am -      #22

I know you said that. I was clarifying the Snake you mentioned.

  23. Ninja Lowk September 22, 2015 at 1:43 am -      #23

    Two things about this.
One what type of gun was used on him?
Two, a few minutes of down time is pretty bad against a guy who carriers automatic weapons.
    ===
“And he didn’t play dead, he was clinically dead for a few minutes according to the doctors and then he just got back up.”

And if the match doesn’t end, what exactly is stopping him from popping more rounds into him until the match does actually stop.

  24. Ciridae Hunter September 22, 2015 at 1:45 am -      #24

Ah, then you have my thanks.

If Snake could dodge the shield he’s golden but I still think Snake is much more of a stealth character and would really throw Cap off since he’s used to people screaming “Heil Hydra!” at his face or people firing at him head-on; someone coming unseen from behind or above is definitely more suited to beat Blatant Patriotism Man

  25. Alpha or Omega September 22, 2015 at 1:56 am -      #25

Cap has used stealth before and has fought stealthy enemies. Just not the ones Solid Snake is.

  26. Jake_Uzumaki September 22, 2015 at 2:06 am -      #26

“And if the match doesn’t end, what exactly is stopping him from popping more rounds into him until the match does actually stop”

Well I’m looking for it but I remember a scan of Cap in civilian clothes in a car getting shot up by assault rifles and then getting out with at least 7 visible bullet holes on him. So..again not sure if anything short of the railgun is going to actually put him down.
And how does that actually work? I mean like if a character is fighting Deadpool and shoves a grenade down his throat and doesn’t know how extensive his healing factor is would they let their guard down after he should be clinically dead or not?

  27. Ciridae Hunter September 22, 2015 at 2:11 am -      #27

“Just not the ones Solid Snake is”

My point exactly; stealth in Marvel is typically some form of shape-shifting without knowing shit about the person or acting like them or a bs energy whatever around some alien killing machine or ship that Iron Man or some other smart guy has to deal with. He’s a soldier-he’s not stealth…but on the other hand, Snake is crippled in this match since he immediately starts right in front of Cap

    @Friendlysociopath

“Can Snake actually fight Captain America on equal grounds? I know Metal Gear is absurd- but isn’t Snake only human or so?”

Solid Snake is the clone of Big Boss and actually killed him in combat. And Big Boss could push 8 000 tons mech up with ease:
    stream1.gifsoup.com/view5/20140503/5029244/big-boss-catches-cocoon-o.gif
Not to mentioned that he survived a microwaved room which could’ve boiled normal person in seconds. And lastly he took numerous hits from Liquid Ocelot mechanic arm and that failed to even draw blood from him (from 2:45) and Snake have a body of 90 year old (he was aged at higher speed than normal human, since he is a clone) during this:

  29. Alpha or Omega September 22, 2015 at 2:16 am -      #29

    @Jake
When did that happen, and where did he get shot?
One of his deaths was a sniper bullet, and then being shot by Sharon. Both were on his abdomen.
The other time was being impaled by Daken in the same spot.

  30. Jake_Uzumaki September 22, 2015 at 2:29 am -      #30

    @Alpha
the sniper Sharon combo was while he was wearing power dampners courtesy of SHIELD so it should be taken with a grain of salt as he wasn’t at his normal capabilities.
The bullet holes we see were in his arm, but unless his muscles and bones are that dense the bullets should have continued through into the side of his torso and his vital organs shouldn’t they?
Edit: found the links in post 22 of Cap vs Cole, sadly they no longer work though.

As for the Daken scan I’d have to see it as I don’t recall a fight he had with Daken.

  31. Alpha or Omega September 22, 2015 at 2:45 am -      #31

Depends on the bullet and other specs that hit his arm. Captain America also wore fishscale armor back then.
    /
The Daken scan was when he was brought back to life along with Sentry.
Thor fought Sentry while Cap fought Daken. This was the same comic where earth was going to be stepped on.
I know that Death Battle’s Batman vs. Captain America had that scan while talking about knives penetrating his armor.

  32. Jake_Uzumaki September 22, 2015 at 3:17 am -      #32

Cap was just wearing a windbreaker jacket and I think a tshirt under it no body armor that I recall. They were some type of full auto sub machine guns or assault rifles without finding the scans can’t really be sure all I know is the car was absolutely riddled with holes.

That was Death Seed Enhanced Grim Reaper, not Daken, and was after two straight issues of the Apocalypse Twins smacking him around like a ragdoll (well one issue of both of them doing it, then an issue of just the girl, then in Uncanny 17 at the end after holding him off for a few minutes DS Grim Reaper gutted Cap) so he wasn’t exactly in the best condition at the time having been beaten and slashed by upper level super humans, doused in acid in several locations

  33. lethal_gecko September 22, 2015 at 3:57 am -      #33

I’m sure Snake could find a way to beat Cap, but the odds aren’t in his favor. Should have been the Master Chief instead, 2 super-humans make more sense in this scenario.
