So, it seems like I am the only person on the planet that actually liked this movie.
When did the Geek culture become soo picky and protective? We should be THANKFUL that Hollywood wants to make movies like this. Seeing the success of this and other video game themed movies is the only way we will ever get to see the like of Link and Samus on the silver screen.
What were people expecting? It’s Adam Sandler in the main role! Did they think he was going to raise his level of acting for this film?
And the plot? OF COURSE it’s a bit far-fetched. IT’S BASED ON VIDEO GAMES.
I’m old enough to have done the arcade experience and Pac-Man was just a bit before my time, but I got to partake in the glory days of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat battles where your turn was based by where your quarter was placed.
So, am I blinded a bit by nostalgia? Yes.
But strip away all the expectations of a serious movie, and instead go in with the mindset that I did – a goofy comedy centered around video games.
It’s a Sandler film, and yes, there are some hilarious moments, made possible because of the story, and the references.
The FX is amazing, and they paid homage to many of the classics and even to some newer titles, one including the Master Chief…
So, if you just want to see a comedy, you’ll like this film. If you want to see a Sandler film, it’s average for one of his movies. If you want to see a video game themed movie, it’s a decent flick.
There you have it, the movie is easily a 6 or 7 out of a 10.
Adam Sandler is still making movies? Huh, good for him. I wouldn’t go to the movies to see his stuff but I might keep this in mind for when it comes on demand or netflix.
I actually liked it too, made me laugh at some parts.
It was ok movie.
I’ll probably wait until there’s a decent-quality free stream; Sandler flicks kind of went Shamalan after Happy Gilmore, so it’s either Netflix or streaming for me
Sandler has some hit and miss films. I keep hearing the FX are really good, and is probably pretty entertaining if you sit down and watch it for what it is, a nostalgic comedy flick starring Adam Sandler. But my movie watching, as far as “in theater” viewing is pretty much down to only films with “Marvel” attached, and now “DC” with the upcoming Suicide Squad and BvS. Exceptions do apply, like for Jurassic World, which is my entire childhood re-created onscreen, and probably my favorite movie for the next few years (Until JW2 of course) for that reason.

Like Ciridae, I might watch it when it hits something that I can stream it from.
Admin, I want more video game films too. However, no one should force themselves to like this film (easily the worst blockbuster of the year) just so that they can make more.
The acting ranged from OK to terrible, there are no characters I liked, the film is very sexist (and I don’t usually even care about that stuff, but its so overt), almost NONE of the jokes worked for me, the villains were basically non-existent, and the ending is lame.
It seemed sort of interesting but then the characters they showed… And then I saw Sandler, which sort of made me think it was going to be not so great…

Personally best new movie I watched this year was Mad Max.

How do they depict gamers in the movie?
