(Looks at match, then at the clock)
Damn it, I’m staying up too late during finals week…

That said, isn’t Gambit like bullshit powerful? Like “I touch this building and it explodes” powerful?
Also- I believe his “Charm” is a canon ability yes?

(Checks up images for both sides)

Yeah, one of them is redundant in what image(s) would be used to represent them. -_-

Anyone mind telling me if we’re using Comic Book!-versions or Live-Action versions for a fight like this?
If it’s the former, is it Classic 616 or Ultimate-verse versions for Gambit?

This is gonna be a(nother) long week, and still no word on Percy fighting one of the Knights of the Round Table that isn’t a Vanilla Mortal either, and I’m not talking Galahad, Lancelot or Tristian(yet) right now.

(Still waits longer for that C.H.B-related fight that don’t have Percy himself directly involved.)

Someone tell me the C.H.B wikia is getting updated with cited quotes since the ComicViners are not bothering to be good sports to update that wikia themselves.

I’m Bloody serious about it, a whole lot of weight would get out of our shoulders if that wikia got proper citations to save their lives.
(It also goes without saying, Less cranky me = a much happier, less snappier me, you WANT a less snappier me, trust me!)

“Like “I touch this building and it explodes” powerful?”

I don’t think its that easy but yeah he probably could do that. I wonder if he could make water explosive.

    Car busting at most.

“Also- I believe his “Charm” is a canon ability yes?”

    Yep.
Although funnily enough he’s still one of the most hated members among the x-men.

He has no good durability or speed fights that i can find, But he’s likely more athletic than Percy:

“I don’t think its that easy but yeah he probably could do that. I wonder if he could make water explosive.”

His power only works on solid objects doesn’t it?
Otherwise he’d just ionize the air around targets all the time.

I feel like Percy should have a significant edge in speed and durability, but if Gambit touches him it should be GG

  7. Ragnorke May 4, 2015 at 12:35 am -      #7

“but if Gambit touches him it should be GG”

Unless Gambits power can be compared to a volcanic eruption, i don’t see why this should be the case.
It’d take multiple ionizations to start injuring Percy.

Here’s when Gambit point blank touched Captain America:

D dunno, last thing I recall besides him team up with storm was whn I was trying to find out how organic something needs to be for him to not effect it.
As for reaction most of what I could find was dodging or blocking unknown projectiles and rubber bullets, however there is this matrix bit against a real one

Remember folks, never dodge a bullet like Neo. It didn’t work well when he did it and it didn’t help gambit either.

Here’s the building busting feat that was mentioned,
He actually just dissolved a rather small part of a small building.

He does have his overpowered moments though:

He’s a guaranteed bullet timer. Machine gun bullet fire actually, which puts him above Percy in reaction/combat speed.

So, Gambit took blows from New Sun (Gambit from an alternate earth)

    marvel.wikia.com/New_Sun_%28Earth-9921%29

New Sun destroyed all life on his planet, killed his universes Phoenix, and found a way to exist outside time & space.
He then went to different universes to ensure none of the other Gambits reach his power level to prevent the destruction of their worlds.

This website has been acting extremely wacky lately. Browsing on mobile is extremely broke. And logging in doesn’t seem to work for me right now… this is the only thread I am logged in at. Any other thread says I am not logged in, and by logging in, it reloads the page and acts like I still am not logged in. I am so confused.

“Unless Gambits power can be compared to a volcanic eruption, i don’t see why this should be the case.”

Gambit’s power is making things go boom, correct? He’s leveled at least one building. I’m calling PIS on that Captain America scan, especially after what Gambit did to Sinister. Also the volcano nearly killed Percy and isn’t really a surviving your body being turned into a bomb feat.

  19. Ragnorke May 4, 2015 at 9:05 am -      #19

“Gambit’s power is making things go boom, correct?.”

He increases the kinetic energy in their molecules, which is the same “kind” of damage you’d take when being hit by an explosion.
He doesn’t “reality warp” or use “magic” to make something go boom.
His cards just go boom because cards aren’t durable.
Forexample, his fists & staff usually doesn’t explode when he ionizes them.

“He’s leveled at least one building.”

He never really leveled a building. That’s kinda overplaying the feat.
He broke a part off a small building, or cracked a small building in half. (2 or 3 stories high)

“Also the volcano nearly killed Percy and isn’t really a surviving your body being turned into a bomb feat.”

    A comparatively very weak bomb.

” I’m calling PIS on that Captain America scan, especially after what Gambit did to Sinister.”

I actually don’t think Sinister died. Not sure.

“I think that Gambit can win.”

He definitely has a speed advantage.
If he knocks out Percy before he gets a large chunk of water, he can probably win.

But he’s likely more athletic than Percy:

    Percy is pretty athletic:
“Part of their problem was Percy. He fought like a demon, whirling through the defenders’ ranks in a completely unorthodox style, rolling under their feet, slashing with his sword instead of stabbing like a Roman would, whacking campers with the flat of his blade, and generally causing mass panic. Octavian screamed in a shrill voice—maybe ordering the First Cohort to stand their ground, maybe trying to sing soprano—but Percy put a stop to it. He somer saulted over a line of shields and slammed the butt of his sword into Octavian’s helmet. The centurion collapsed like a sock puppet.”
-Chapter 12, The Son Of Neptune
    +
Size of the shields Percy somersaulted over.
“In front of the legionnaires, like a line of giant dominoes, stood their red and gold shields, each the size of a refrigerator door.”
-Chapter 7, The Son Of Neptune
    -Envoy, PJ vs Link

I lifted my khopesh to deflect the blow. I just managed to keep my head from being cleaved in half, but [Percy] was strong and quick.
    -Son of Sobek

I don’t have the book on me, but he leaped 20 ft into the air while holding someone and being actively weakened.

  21. Friendlysociopath May 4, 2015 at 10:54 am -      #21

    Percy is pretty athletic

Comparatively, Gambit is greater- jumping and dodging through a small space between beams is more work than just rolling over a shield line or under someone’s feet.
That dodging machinegunfire though puts him at a better speed than Percy, he had enough trouble dealing with one bullet.

Size of the shields Percy somersaulted over.

The method of ‘somersaulting’ indicates they were not fully vertical when he did that.

but he leaped 20 ft into the air while holding someone and being actively weakened.

If that’s the feat I’m thinking of it was Percy jumping 20 feet across a river with Annabeth.

Oh, I know. I was just throwing it out there.

That dodging machinegunfire though puts him at a better speed than Percy, he had enough trouble dealing with one bullet.

Yeah, Gambit has the RT advantage. But where are you getting that Percy had trouble? That was his first time encountering modern day weaponry being used against him. I think he did pretty well, considering what he did once he got to the shooters.

If that’s the feat I’m thinking of it was Percy jumping 20 feet across a river with Annabeth.

    Yeah

  23. Friendlysociopath May 4, 2015 at 11:11 am -      #23

But where are you getting that Percy had trouble?

The fact that he admitted he couldn’t see the bullet and needed some sort of special power he doesn’t normally have to react to it. So we know he can block exactly one bullet compared to other characters easily blocking multiple bullets in succession.
Plus the fact that he was immediately shot in the back following the blocking of said bullet.

considering what he did once he got to the shooters.

It’s harder to respond to someone with a gun the closer they get to you, missing that initial shot bones you.

  24. Nsl98 May 4, 2015 at 1:10 pm -      #24

Oh, yeah. I know that. Compared to other bullet timers, Percy is the bottom of the barrel. Maybe Styx and water amps puts him up more, but that’s speculation.

He still deflected it though. I’m hoping Riordan puts more gun toters for him to fight in the MC series.

Plus the fact that he was immediately shot in the back following the blocking of said bullet.

Doesn’t it say he was congratulating himself on how quickly he cut down the skeletons? He was distracted.

  25. Friendlysociopath May 4, 2015 at 1:21 pm -      #25

Doesn’t it say he was congratulating himself on how quickly he cut down the skeletons? He was distracted.

I don’t think so but let me check; that’s bad in a different way if it’s true.
    Ah, found it;
“The first skeleton fired. Time slowed down. I won’t say I could see the bullet, but I
could feel its path, the same way I felt water currents in the ocean. I deflected it off the edge
of my blade and kept charging.
The skeleton drew a baton and I sliced off his arms at the elbows. Then I swung Riptide
through his waist and cut him in half.
His bones unknit and clattered to the asphalt in a heap. Almost immediately, they began to move, reassembling themselves. The second skeleton clattered his teeth at me and tried to fire, but I knocked his gun into the snow.
I thought I was doing pretty well, until the other two skeletons shot me in the back. “

In other words, he was shot mid-combat and he thought he was winning; not quite the same thing.

Maybe Styx and water amps puts him up more, but that’s speculation.

I don’t recall water actually boosting his fighting speed, just his energy and stamina. Heck, most of his bests speed combat feats don’t actually involve water at all.

Also, Percy’s sword couldn’t actually kill the skeletons… just think that needs to be kept in mind for future matches.

“Remember folks, never dodge a bullet like Neo. It didn’t work well when he did it and it didn’t help gambit either.”

So, what IS the proper way to dodge a bullet?

  27. Friendlysociopath May 4, 2015 at 4:46 pm -      #27

So, what IS the proper way to dodge a bullet?

Preferably just duck forwards, less work, less strain, better position to actually do… ANYTHING but fall backwards onto your ass.

Notice the AGENT doesn’t pull something asinine like that

That’s of course assuming you can’t juke side to side- which is almost always the better way to go.

  28. Limbo Lowk May 4, 2015 at 4:49 pm -      #28

“So, what IS the proper way to dodge a bullet?”

Anything that doesn’t involve limbo-ing or flipping through a hail of bullets.

To be fair on that Gambit feat with Captain America, he wasn’t trying to kill Captain America. They were trying to knock each other unconscious.
