Microsoft Employee Selling Halo 3 Secrets?

Meet Tyler Hallberg.

Tyler Hallberg

()

As the webmaster of www.officialhalo3cheats.com there is an offer to submit cheats for cash – when the game comes out on September 25th, 2007.

Already getting offers for the Beta release, it was interesting to see Tyler’s email – below is the entire sequence of emails that took place.

how bad are you wanting cheats for this game? i have the game and have found about 20 cheats for it.

May 29, 2007 9:22 AM
Tyler -

When you say cheats, are you talking about glitches or superjumps? My intention is to have THE site on the web for all things like this for Halo 3.

As I mentioned on the site, anything in the beta may or may not be in the shipped version of the game, but if you have any I would certainly be interested.

When the site goes live, there will be different levels of payment, all depending on the cheat – i.e. very
hard easter egg vs commonly known superjump, etc…

Thanks for the inquiry!

no no no. you dont understand what im telling you. i have the final
version of the game. i work for microsoft. and i also have a list of
ALL the easter eggs and ALL the cheats.

Tyler -

Well now, that is interesting. What would you want?

[note the long gap where Tyler doesn’t reply]

Tyler -
Are you interested in revealing your information, and what would you want?

Jun 18, 2007 1:11 AM
well that took you a while to get back to me. i dont reveal anything. i have had some pretty nice offers
from other sources for what i have. along with the final release CD. what do you have to offer?

Jun 19, 2007 4:31 PM
I did reply on 5/30/2007, you never responded.

Anyways, that’s in the past. I have no idea of what type of person you are and/or what your needs are.

Some people want money, some people want services. I have many different things to offer, so you need to set the price and I will decide if I think it’s worth it.

Jun 19, 2007 5:24 PM
well you have no need to get cocky with me. and for that im not
offering my services to you anymore. thanks anyways

Is this kid legit? Doing a Google search in Tyler Hallberg doesn’t get much. But do the same search on Yahoo, and you get a very interesting post on Craigslist (now expired) – but here is the cache:

Well my name is Tyler. I am a sophomore at Emerald Ridge High School. … Tyler Hallberg. . Location: puyallup …

this is all that is available, but there is another post on Craigslist (also expired) reveals his need to “help others”: Avoid scams & fraud by dealing locally! Beware any deal involving Western Union, Moneygram, wire transfer, … tyler hallberg. Location: Puyallup …

Point is, how bad does this kid need money, and how much is Bungie and Microsoft willing to allow this to continue?

You know what’s completely funny? We’re talking about a video game. Sure, it’s a kick-ass video game, but it’s not like highly-classified government secrets are reaching communist China.

I’ll admit Microsoft SHOULD be a bit more interested in protecting trade secrets. I’ll also admit that if 20+ cheats/hacks were discovered BEFORE the release of the game, the should be able to render those cheats useless before the final version is released this fall. But hey, it’s Microsoft

Actually I don’t Need money. and next time how about you not edit and post stuff that wasn’t said. (I didn’t edit anything) Half that stuff I never said.(If anyone wants, I can show all emails that this conversation has taken) If I needed money then I would have gaven you all the stuff I have. (But it’s now listed at another site, supposedly) Like i told you in one of the emails not here. I am a computer programmer and I am not sure if you know how much we make. But I make well over $100,000 a year. (Let’s talk to the I.R.S. then) And those craigslist posts, those are over 2 years old btw.

This kid probably doesnt even work for microsoft, at the very most his parents do ..or a friends parents.
Ive had similar offers from kids that frequent live, but they havent been asking for payment(or fishing for payment)
However none of them have come through with the goods.
Im even thinking that he doesnt even have access to these codes or easter egg locations but rather has been promised much like myself.
Like i always say, show me the goods first, if you dont give me a taste then i know youre full of it.
Afterall it is only a game that is due for release in 7 days…ive waited this long and i sure as hell can wait for another few days till its official release, who needs ppl like tyler , NOT ME!!!

I am not the right person to be messing with and if your smart you will be taking down this post real soon like. You can not take my picture and publish it on the net without my consent. Have you ever heard of copywrite laws? any picture tookin by someone else and put on the internet by someone else must get permission from that person to use that picture. even if it is a personal photo of you, you would still have to have written consent from them to use that photo. I am taking computer science and i know all about these copywrite laws. Yes i do work for Microsoft helping with their software and game testing and what not. I will be contacting you soon if this page, my name, and picture are not taken off this site. and thanks to whatever the hell his name is that posted this my picture and my name are first to come up on a Google search. thank you for making me so popular. =]. it really shows you care about someone you don’t know. It makes me feel all tingly inside. Like a bad tingly though. Like the one that you get when you outsmart someone older. Thanks to you my website traffic has almost doubled in the last few months and everyone i have talked to has tooken my side of the story, They think it is sad that someone of your age has to go and take your personal problems out on kids of the age 17. 16 when you posted that. Hope you don’t have any pictures of me on your computer because that would be kind of disgusting if you know what i mean. gross and illegal. well if you need to talk to me why not just drop me an email instead of editing my comments oh and editing my emails like you did with this one. thanks

Huh, it seems odd to me that this poser says he works for Microsoft, makes over $100k, and says he knows the secrets. Anyone else catch on that Halo 3 was made by Bungee, and not Microsoft, and that most gaming companies test games internally, so it’s improbable, though still possible, that Microsoft would have information regarding secrets of Halo 3. But, giving you the benefit of th doubt, let’s say you “looked” at the coding, and found these littlle secrets. Huh, well, that would still turn out badly for you, because then you would technically be reverse-engineering someone elses product and selling it, which constitutes a felony offense. Also, sorry pal, but I know quite a few computer programmers, myself included. Sure, none that work for Microsoft, but, let’s just say that they don’t exactly have the luxury of $100k a year. You clearly don’t deny those Craigslist posts, yet according to them, you were in high school at that time, and you said they were “over 2 years old”. Huh, hard to imagine that a novice programmer could enter a corporation such as Microsoft, attain the status of a full-blown ‘Programmer’ without going to college (last time I checked, Computer Programming was a 4-year degree at pretty much every college), and be doing so well, fresh out of high school, to be making $100k. Not to mention that Microsoft wouldn’t take too kindly to having “their” secrets revealed, I’m sure you aren’t willing to sacrifice your “$100k + ” salary to “help out a fellow gamer, and provide them with H3 secrets.” …Or, at least someone who was intelligent enough to be a legitimate CP would make such a foolish decision, anyway.

Basically, there are just too many shady areas in this guys story for it to even possibly be true. I must agree with lllARGONAUTlll; don’t buy into these half-truth people with their shady operations and forked-tongue lies. Simply put; they’re scam artists. And, honestly, out of respect of the game, find them on your own, anyway.

wow, just checking out who you are, because you left the comment on my blog…. I see you actually do know a lot about the game, lol. I would love to learn to play so I don’t feel like such a loser, but no one will teach me :(. They just like me because of kill points…punks
