Thing Vs Kratos

Thing Vs Kratos

Suggested by Jake_Uzumaki

Thing (Marvel Comics) will go up against Kratos (God of War)

Battle takes place in ancient Rome. During one of the Fantastic Fours adventures Benjamin Grimm aka The Thing accidentally winds up in Rome during ancient times, by sheer coincidence, Kratos (circa his incarnation in god of war 3) happens to be there slaughtering soldiers because he insulted the Roman gods and they didn’t take too kindly to that.

Ben tells Kratos to lay off the cannon fodder troops and Kratos, mistaking the ever loving blue eyed Thing as an Olympian golem sent to kill him punches him through a wall. Ben, not one to take getting a knuckle sandwich lying down stands up and cracks his knuckles and utters his famous catch phrase ” It’s Clobberin’ Time!” and he and Kratos charge each other for a clash of titans that might just level the great seat of the Roman Empire. The question is, which one is going to live to fight again?

Who will win?

    First. =P Don’t you hate it when people do that?

    @Sauroposeidon

    “Don’t you hate it when people do that?”

    I don’t.

    What feats does Thing have?

  3. Darth Bombad April 22, 2015 at 7:32 am -      #3

    Second! [Edit] dammit… Third!.

    Going with the Ghost of Sparta on this one, i doubt Thing has anything Kratos hasn’t seen.
    And Ben is barely a hundred toner, while Kratos overpowers mountain sized Titans.

    For once it looks like we have a pretty well balanced Kratos match, well done Jake.

    Banana!

    I’d back Kratos here. As has been stated above, he’s faced titans, and I don’t really see Thing having anything that’d completely dominate him, unless he’s got some insane comic feats I don’t know abou- he does, doesn’t he?

    “unless he’s got some insane comic feats I don’t know abou- he does, doesn’t he?”

    He usually loses to Wolverine.

    In that case, I stand by my convictions at this point!

    Sounds like Kratos stomps, he also uses blades…..lets just say if Kratos and Thing get into a grapple and Kratos uses his blades to push into the thing…the thing is going to be cut/crumble into sand….

  8. AbsoluteZero April 22, 2015 at 7:48 am -      #8

    I wonder what would happen if Kratos used the head of Medusa on Thing? Would it have an effect, or just do nothing?

    These are the questions that keep me up at night.

    ^ LoL! i was gonna bring that up as a weapon in his arsenal, but then i thought
    can he actually turn the Thing into stone?, i mean he already kinda is.

    “sigh” should have known shouldn’t we, its a comic book character..

    @Jake

    “destroying a skyscraper in a clash with Luke Cage”

    I think “skyscraper” is a bit much. It looks like a relatively small (and abandoned) apartment block.

    “supporting part of an oil rig”

    Sure but so could that 10-15 ft tube.

    @NS

    “Thing withstands enough pressure to push through a planet:”

    Doubtful as it was only claimed to do so, then we see the thing lying on what looks like cobblestones, it didn’t do any damage to them, let alone the planet.

  14. Jake_Uzumaki April 22, 2015 at 9:03 am -      #14

    @AbsoluteZero
    Well there is a reason I considered this a better fight than Kratos previous forays agains higher tiered comic book characters where he got curbstomped by Hulk, Superman(three times), Thor (twice), Wonder Woman (who is ironically the god of war now), Spawn, Lobo, and (arguably most embarrassingly depending on how you feel about him) He-Man.
    I figured Thing was lower tiered enough that Kratos could actually have a fight….rather than get punched with the kind of muscles required to crack a planet….or move a moon…or sink half a continent.
    It was going to be either Thing, Aquaman, or Namor. And I went with Thing first.

  15. Nsl98 April 22, 2015 at 9:04 am -      #15

    Doubtful as it was only claimed to do so, then we see the thing lying on what looks like cobblestones, it didn’t do any damage to them, let alone the planet.

    That could be because all of the energy needed was focused on Thing, which he then tanked.

  16. Kitten Lord April 22, 2015 at 9:09 am -      #16

    @Ns

    “That could be because all of the energy needed was focused on Thing, which he then tanked.”

    That would only stop the thing from being broken but hte pressure would not just suddenly disapear just because the thing was the target, the thing would become the object moving. The thing “should” be pushed into the cobblestones if the force was so great.

  17. Nsl98 April 22, 2015 at 9:13 am -      #17

    @Kitten
    Meh, it’s probably another case of comic authors not knowing what they’re talking about.

  18. AbsoluteZero April 22, 2015 at 9:16 am -      #18

    @Jake_Uzumaki

    In that case, fair enough. I’d have gone with Aquaman, personally.

  19. Ragnorke April 22, 2015 at 9:19 am -      #19

    “That would only stop the thing from being broken but hte pressure would not just suddenly disapear just because the thing was the target, the thing would become the object moving. The thing “should” be pushed into the cobblestones if the force was so great.”

    Not really.
    What about the possibility of his anatomy being tanky enough to simply absorb it?

    If I were to stab you with a piece of rubber, I’m directly applying pressure to you, but you’ll be generally unaffected by it.
    As I apply more and more pressure, you’ll start feeling some pain, which is energy being absorbed by your body.

    The feat still seems like an outlier to me.
    Although I’m certain Thing still has other good feats that put him above kratos.

  20. Jake_Uzumaki April 22, 2015 at 9:22 am -      #20

    @AZ
    well I did say first, I decided to go with Thing to cut it on the lower scale since Kratos was recently having trouble with Venom…granted part of that was speed but still I wanted to try to avoid a stomp.

  21. Kitten Lord April 22, 2015 at 9:35 am -      #21

    @Rag

    Opposite/equel reaction, essentially newtons third law, basically if the Thing, like in the scan is “pushing” against the machine with enough force not to be crushed. hes also pushing away from it, which means the cobblestones would have to be able to tank a huge amount of force, especially if it was really “planet boring”.

    Course, it does not say how quickly it can bore through a planet does it? Does it actually do it? because if it takes hundreds of years to do so or thousands then its not as impressive.

    “As I apply more and more pressure, you’ll start feeling some pain, which is energy being absorbed by your body.”

    I do not know about energy being absorbed, your going to have to give me some scientific examples from real tests, the Thing is just a orange rock golem isnt he? what rock is he made of? He always seems so solid, his powers were never “I can absorb energy like a sponge” sort of thing.

  22. Klondike Bar April 22, 2015 at 10:15 am -      #22

    Isn’t absorbing pressure like it pushes on this specific spot and then it sends the energy out from that spot? And that is why if people punch hard enough or if the hulk claps there is a shock wave?

    I guess what I am trying to say is this. That rubber sword example the rubber presses against the body. He feels pain because a large amount of energy is applied in that one area and as it is spreading out it is hurting him since they are overloading the pressure capacity of that point. The energy is not completely absorbed it just keeps slowly radiating away from the point of impact through the air or into the ground. If the thing just absorbed the energy completely and none left his body he would be electrically charged witch I think the thing never does. Could be wrong I do not really read comics.

    Edit. I realized just after posting that I was talking about kinetic energy vs Potential energy. Ignore everything I just said.

  23. Klondike Bar April 22, 2015 at 10:24 am -      #23

    So in essence the thing should be able to give one hell of a static shock to the next person he touches or the ground and air around him should be being ripped up due to his body transferring the force out his body being pressed down or the vibrations caused by the energy.

    I assume none of this happened.

  24. Kitten Lord April 22, 2015 at 11:03 am -      #24

    Like Ns said its probably just writers not knowing what their talking about. Or hyperbole or the man was just lying when he claimed his machine was that good or something, either way Rag said it may be an outlier even if true.

  25. Jake_Uzumaki April 22, 2015 at 11:25 am -      #25

    Yeah that could be an outlier (or maybe its more like an oil drill type deal where it over time pushes through?)

  26. hellboy147 April 22, 2015 at 11:34 am -      #26

    Strength wise only few can match Kratos in his league, thing is one of them. However, Kratos gets the advantage with vast variety of weapons and even experience when it comes to slaying monsters. I would say stab from blade of Olympus will be enough.

    I suggested another match for kratos and it’s a good one.

  27. Ragnorke April 22, 2015 at 2:05 pm -      #27

    His fight with Namor alone is enough to say he can go toe to toe with Kratos at the very least.

    How strong is Kratos again?

  28. Jake_Uzumaki April 22, 2015 at 4:58 pm -      #28

    Well strong enough to fight a kaiju’s jaws, but not strong enough to throw a kaiju several thousand feet into the air.

  29. Ragnorke April 22, 2015 at 5:40 pm -      #29

    If Kratos isn’t mountain busting level at the very least, i don’t think he can beat the Thing with his strength alone.

    Doesn’t the oil rig feat alone put Thing > Kratos?
    Here’s a few more:

    He took a device from Ego’s (the living planet) surface, all the way into his brain/core. He faced unimaginable pressures & heat, likely equivalent to Earths or higher.
    static.comicvine.com/uploads/scale_super/11/118689/2723585-fantastic_four_235___17.jpg

    Where Namor is able to pull shit like this off:
    static.comicvine.com/uploads/scale_super/12/121048/2471367-namor_vs_hulk_oldfight.jpg

    He fought the Rulk, who’s strong enough to jump from Earth to the Moon, while holding Thor in his hands.
    static.comicvine.com/uploads/scale_super/11/118689/2723598-01_24_10_01_18_19.jpg

    He takes no damage from re-entry, i’m pretty sure he was totally outside Earths atmosphere here.

    “Apparently he is around lighting speed with reflex on par.”

    Thats misleading, the dev clearly hardly knew what the guy was refering to, the dev seemed to think you were refering to Kratos being able to do a flip and then went on to confirm that the commerical was a “legit” piece of media.

    Whether the commerical shows lightning reactions is a separate debate, Lets just say those sort of reactions would be toppled by the fact the “cloud entity” (zeus) clearly showed he was going to attack and charged up briefly before fireing, so no, Kratos did not react to lightning, it was the equivalent to a man dodging the aim of a shooter.

    @Hellboy

    “Kratos was indeed slowed in time manipulation.”

    The devs confirm that Kratos was “pinned there”, so he could hardly move due to time manipulation, hardly speed.
