Your Favorite Character Vs 1984 (first time here)
Round 1: How far do they get either destroying Ingsoc or creating a rebellion?
Round 2: Can O’Brien break them?
Please use humans.
Assume that your character starts out leading Winston Smith’s life.
Please use humans.
–
Could I get some clarification for what you exactly mean by this?
My favorite character….
—
That would come down to Sora or Spider-Man.
—
I’ll just do both:
—
Round 1: I’d imagine Sora could get pretty far into taking down Ingsoc, don’t remember any superhumans in the book
–
Round 2: O’Brien stomps, assuming no powers are allowed. Sora can be psychologically fragile at times.
—
Spider-Man:
Round 1: Given his genius intellect and abilities, he could design weapons or something for the rebels. Not quite on Stark level or anything, but a few web shooters here and there couldn’t hurt. Or just physically destroying any opposition.
–
Round 2: Spidey stomps. He will make O’Brien lose his mind in a never ending swarm of wittiness and hilarity.
What is this 1984 thing?
@Rookie
Political Comentary novel from the 40s. It’s about a dystopia, where technology watches you.
—
Hence the term “Big Brother” being used in the media.

Just use this:

^ Makes school easier
Of interesting note (If I remember 1984 correctly, it’s been years)-
in 1984 Winston Smith’s job is to “correct” information Big Brother says is wrong.
–
For example: The expected amount of harvested food is less than would be enough for everyone to eat. Winston’s job is to change every report that says the amount is ‘not enough’ to say it was not only enough, but ‘overly enough’.
–
And they do this for everything, it is a self-destructive path of neverending undercutting that would eventually result in the entire country falling apart anyways.
I got Post-Dark Days Valkyrie Cain, Pre-Rebellion Homura Akemi, and Haseo of the Dot Hack universe(if In-world Powers are actually WORKING!) to start things out, I’d also nominate Post-Changes Dresden to matters like that, or even (Original!-)Tenchi Masaki from Tenchi Muyo for that matter.
If we start with any of those 5 above and their powers are working just fine, how badly will Ingsoc be burning in their own blood, by chance?
—
Which makes Round 02 get interesting for how badly will any would-be Tormenter suffer for whatever they’re gonna do to the 5. 😈
Some of them have Split-Personalities, more of them have powerful weapons, and we didn’t even get to their big guns either!
I’m quite sure Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory also needs a mention for having the best odds in Round 01 WITHOUT starting some kind of Rampage at work, Jimmy Neutron, not so much.
Ed Edd N Eddy are iffy though.
Link from LoZ depends on which Link, for old time’s sake I’d say The Link that’s beaten Link as of late.
Some guys from Red vs Blue to consider like Church or Caboose, anyone?
I take it that we’re not talking Pure Devastation and Destruction going on, well so much for that. T_T;
Can we use Super-Humans for a fight like this yet?
@Friendly
Yeah, Orwell was beyond his time. Like, 50+ years off, give or take?
—
Still better than Brave New World.
—
And just realized that that means Sora has to learn to type! And we all know what happened the first time…
Yeah, Orwell was beyond his time. Like, 50+ years off, give or take?
–
Huh? What country do you live in that’s like Oceania in 1984? No country present in our world mind-rapes like that. They have a literal time to sit in front of their TV and get angry at their enemies.
–
Considering it’s not extremely futuristic, it’s relatively safe to say they still have regular 1984 army equipment unless anyone else read otherwise.
–
I’ll wait to see if I can get a more thorough answer for what counts as ‘human’. I might just pick 3 of my favorites: one video game, one anime/manga, and one book/movie character.
–
And just realized that that means Sora has to learn to type!
–
Nah, his machine just types as he speaks to it.
I was talking more about the tech and stuff. And the crazy talk about the NSA and whatnot “watching” us.
—
Nah, his machine just types as he speaks to it.
—
Really? Huh, guess it has been a while. At least he won’t cause problems.
I can’t say I have read 1984, but I am confident the Boss is skilled enough to infiltrate it.
How human? Some of my favorites tend to fall somewhere in the cybernetic area. It between
Tony Stark
Commander Shepard
Cyborg
–
Two could probably talk thier way to victory.
The third, well, I hope if they have tech I hope it has good cyber security.
As to whether or not The Boss could be broken, I assume that means torture, Big Boss was tortured by Colonel Volgin and managed not to break, and he was The Boss’ pupil. They would definitely need to get real creative if they want to make someone as legendary as her crack.
–
How human? Some of my favorites tend to fall somewhere in the cybernetic area.
–
I would think that their cybernetics would give them an unfair advantage, especially concerning Round 2.
Some of my favorite characters would be adam jenson, Ravenor, and Gregor Eisenhorn. Ravenor would be too OP here, and jenson cant operate alone. Eisenhorn would do quite well IMO. He specializes in psychic trickery that makes people do exactly what he says when he says it. Like a leadership sort of thing. But… 40k stuff is already a dystopia, so I wouldn’t really see him having a problem with 1984 stuff.
Favorites… Well there’s Rand and Naruto… Both of whom would just casually lol-nope the whole setting.
Please use humans.
–
I was going to chose Cortana but she’s not human… hm… I have to think then… not sure who is mine….
Let’s see: Hei from Darker than Black, Date Masamune from Sengoku Basara, and I guess Cloud Strife from FF7. Thanks to that human rule anyways (Cloud actually might not count, Hei might technically not either).
–
Hei Round 1: While not as physically impressive as the other two, he is much more of an urban operative so I think he’d do well at least as part of the rebellion.
Hei Round 2: Dunno, he seems to be quite in control of himself in the series. There’s a problem I see with Round 2 though that I’ll get to later.
–
Date Round 1: Clears the board no problem, plus we know he’s got a charismatic and likable personality that inspires loyalty; rebellion will successfully be underway as he happily wipes the enemy off of the map.
Date Round 2: His willpower is pretty extreme, but here’s the thing- O’Brien can’t break them if he can’t hold them. Nowhere in 1984 am I led to believe they have the manpower or technology to imprison someone like Date in the first place, let alone keep him there.
–
Cloud Round 1: Well, he’s not the most charismatic character, but he’s pretty good at saving the world. Even without materia he should be more than capable of small-scale battles on his own. Although he can’t solo Oceania army like Date can.
Cloud Round 2: See above point about keeping someone imprisoned long enough to try and break them. Cloud has resisted mind-rape before so he would have a good chance methinks.
Naruto, Sailor Moon (sort of ish far more arguable by end of series I suppose but at least between when she was city and planet busting she would probably count)
Drax is a human that was reborn as a weapon in the comics so again you could via technicality get him and if we’re allowed to pick when in their timeline…well pre-power gem Drax ripped a star in half.
Krillin Yamcha Tien(maybe) are human
Juggernauts a human
Deadpool
Tony Stark
Dr. Strange
There are some Thor’s that are human (the Marston Thor was technically and so is the new fem Thor)
Hell, Samurai Jack’s a human but he could probably walk through the verse.
Darth Vader’s technically human
Legends Palpatine is a human
Commander Shepard
I’m pretty sure every human I’ve listed would slaughter their way through the setting or just wipe it from existence.
–
Human isn’t really a limiter fiction has stretched that definition till it folded back in on itself.
Also Bruce Banner is a human…I’d love to see their faces when they start trying to break him lol.
Also Bruce Banner is a human…I’d love to see their faces when they start trying to break him lol.
—
I feel like Banner would spend the first few minutes trying to stop them, being all like:
“You won’t like me when I’m angry.”
And then the torture people are like, “lolno.”
—
Then Hulk goes Worldbreaker and accidentally wipes out Oceania by taking a couple steps.
I’m pretty sure this match was supposed to be a scenario… destroying the planet doesnt do anything to fix the situation…
don’t have to destroy the planet, just wiping the bad guys off the face of the planet will be sufficient, and with Sailor Moon they get to live for thousands of years in a peaceful world ruled by a benevolent queen, pretty nice tradeoff at that point.
I have no favorite humans…
Sacred Ancestor, Thor, Zeus….
I think by human OP probably meant no special powers or anything.
Then in that case, no one’s favorite character is in this match except the Boss.
Maybe Batman would qualify, but he does some super human stuff time to time as peak human.
“don’t have to destroy the planet, just wiping the bad guys off the face of the planet will be sufficient,”
–
You think every bad person on the planet would just step out and form a line? No. They would be deeply melded with society. Destructive capability means nothing here. Inquisitive types like sherlock holmes would do well here. Not naruto.
or just destroy the building where all the corrupt politicians are.
I win by default woo!
So, really. What does “human” mean? Cause just saying… Mad Jim Jaspers is human.
Do they get their standard gear and weapons?, if so than Boba Fett takes both rounds.
If not than i’m unleashing Captain fu#$%g America! on Big Brothers ass.
–
All Those Who Chose To Oppose His Shield Must Yield!!!.
So, really. What does “human” mean?
–
I would think having regular human attributes like strength and speed. Master Chief wouldn’t qualify as your typical human. That’s just me though. I don’t know what JMT’s criteria for human is.
Round 1:
Tony Stark- will be running everything within a week.
Shepard- can stop 2 different century plus long racial feuds and turn a mentally influenced well meaning extremist/racist with his words. He’ll be the savoir of anything anywhere. Just give him a sweet ride and at least 4 to 5 love interests.
♪You can fight like a Krogan, run like a leopard but you’ll never be better then Commander Shepard.♪
Round 2
Tony Stark- Nope, you can’t break Tony. In fact that is the formula for creating a new Ironman armor.
Shepard- See song lyrics above. This guy I assume is not better then Shepard and so he can not break the Shepard.
Round 1:
Darth Bane planted the seeds of a plot that took 1000 years to develop culminating in the overthrowing of a galactic government that had been around for 25,000 years, it would be child’s play for him to manipulate he’s way to the top of 1984.
Round 2:
Darth Bane might eventually sucumb to physical torture but psychological torture wouldn’t work on him.
Round 1:
Batman wins
Round 2:
Batman wins
Nocking the first two chariot ores off my list due to 40k opness( God Emporer’s and grey Knights are no fun)Well I think Cain’s aid Jurgen would do pretty well, if he has his melta good help the party. And since he a blank…. Well I don’t think they can break him. And my other not too op person would have to be Alphonse Elric, he.is human but how do you break a suit of armor? Then again knowing FMA they have succumb to phycological traps before.
Thrawn, and darth bane can take physical torture and psychological torture with ease.
–
Thrawn will stomp round one, but round two will be wierd. He might be broken but he might not. Only one thing really could break him and that is knowing when he failed the chiss, so maybe round 2 gets him.
–
Next up is kal Skirata.
–
He can easily win 1 with his black underground experience. Round two is completely pointless as only one thing can break him and that is losing his kids, or failing as a father again.
