What if... Touma Kamijou replaced Shepard as main Character in Mass Effect

Suggested by MrRyder

What if Touma Kamijou (Toaru Majutsu first time appears here) who first time appears here, replaced Shepard as main Character in Mass Effect?

Assume he is given the same ME origin choices(Earthborn, Space, Colonist) but still retains his Imagine Breaker.
How would he interact with the characters of ME?
How would he handle the choices and decisions?
Who would he romance?

    Feats for Touma?

    I tried looking up a description of what touma is capable of, he had some weird power that I couldn’t make sense of. I think we would all need context for that wiki explanation.

    Touma Kamijou, while no wimp in himself as far as the ‘Certain-verse’ shows(‘A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun’) are concerned, I can’t remember too much beyond Index: Season 01 in terms of his odds of survival.

    Well, one of his hands could keep him out of otherwise Nasty Situations involving Biotics, sooner or later they might find out about it.
    Guess part of it boils down to which of the origins listed up best fits his Determination and Resolve to survive to say the least.

    Someone’s gonna have to ask the same kind of questions with Mikoto Misaka or Accelerator later on, I just know it.

    I only watched the first few episodes on A Certain Magical Index (I like Railgun more) but Touma isn’t exactly a fighting kind of guy. Heck, his arm only neutralizes magical and psychic powers, against a regular bullet or punch he’s got nothing.

    From a lore point of view I doubt much would really change, he’d be regarded as this oddity that biotics don’t work on. Although I can see groups like Cerberus trying to catch him for having such an ability.

    For choices and decisions, he’s paragon all the way, we know this.
    I’ve no idea who he would romance.

    Unless the kid has jedi mind trick levels of charisma the galaxy doesn’t get together and the Reapers steamroll.

    He would actually be able to romance everyone and save the day in true harem fashion, by complete accident.

    Wouldn’t he be able to destroy eezeo since its some supernatural rock?

    His right hand can cut the red string of fate, which connects someone to their destined lover, and attach it to himself. Instant romance from and for everyone.
    +
    Girls always fall in love with him, and Guys go from villains to not so villainous (they also get their own harem).

    He’d also make tons of shitty anime speeches about ideals or sumshit. Might piss everyone off, might not. Saren would probably shoot himself.

    It’s more radioactive then supernatural.

    The Geth will not understand the emotion they call love. What is Legion and the consensus supposed to do with a harem?

    How does he sound, Is he more Shinji or older Simon? Because Krogan are going to have a tough time dealing with a whiny protagonist.

    He accomplishes approximately nothing. Because Shepard only got where he was by being an insanely capable operator with loads of special forces experience and leadership capability. I bet he never joins N7, never leads an accomplished special forces career, never gets considered to be a Spectre, which means a few weeks down the road Sovereign pops in and everyone dies.

    @warlock Lowk

    He’s like Simon lite.

    @the_man_with The_Answers

    I should’ve added more in the intro. He does follow in Shepard’s role(assume he’ becomes the youngest Spectre along with being the first human)and aquires all that Shepard had along the story

    And am I the only one here familiar with this series? Watched both seasons(and the Railgun spinoff) and now I’m with the other fans who eagerly await a third.

    @MrRyder at #9

    I watched Index: Season 01 and am half-way done with Railgun: Season 01 actually.
    Not bad, though at the moment, Touma’s survival odds depends on which Faction finds him first and WHAT would they want with him in fact.

  11. MrRyder February 23, 2015 at 1:04 pm -      #11

    “which Faction finds him first and WHAT would they want with him in fact.”

    Talking about the series or the match? In the series, there are few individuals on both the Magic and Science sides that know the truth behind Touma’s “power”

    As for the match, you think Cerberus would be interested in Touma’s ability? Or if Touma could cancel out Reaper indoctrination?

  12. Friendlysociopath February 23, 2015 at 1:40 pm -      #12

    As for the match, you think Cerberus would be interested in Touma’s ability?

    Everyone would be interested in Touma’s ability. Pretty much as soon as anyone in power learned he had that arm he would’ve been either politely asked or covertly kidnapped for study. The possibility of “lol-noping” psychic attacks is way too potent to just not be examined at all.

    There’s a key difference between Touma and Shepard. Shepard is special only because she (originally Shepard was a girl, which is why Femshep is so much more fleshed out than Maleshep) did great things but was still a totally normal human. Touma legitimately has a special and unique power that people are going to want to study.

  13. the_man_with The_Answers February 23, 2015 at 2:09 pm -      #13

    “I should’ve added more in the intro. He does follow in Shepard’s role(assume he’ becomes the youngest Spectre along with being the first human)and aquires all that Shepard had along the story”

    Except he’s immediately going to fail because he lacks the skills that Shepard has. He’ll die on the first or second actual combat mission, and I doubt he has the leadership capability of Shepard.

    But, if you’re essentially just going to say “He’s literally Shepard with a different name” then I don’t see a reason in posting the “What if,” since absolutely nothing would change.

  14. FlameStrike February 23, 2015 at 2:35 pm -      #14

    Does anyone know anything about Touma’s current incarnation? The books are pretty far along with 20+ volumes out, and he’s undergone a lot of character development. Touma has thrown down with some pretty powerful beings with literally god-like powers if I recall correctly.

    Granted I haven’t kept up to date with the novels so my knowledge isn’t that good.

  15. MrRyder February 23, 2015 at 3:03 pm -      #15

    No just backstory. I’m not saying he’s literally Shepard in Touma’s body. Touma’s IC, but this is if he was born in the Mass Effect universe and followed in Shepard’s footsteps at the beginning.

  16. Warlock Lowk February 23, 2015 at 3:07 pm -      #16

    “He’s like Simon lite.”

    Then he’s might need to be do some impressive things if he’s going to be mingling with Krogans. Having a superpower is nice but I think they respond more to how you use power rather then just have it.
    ===
    “As for the match, you think Cerberus would be interested in Touma’s ability?”

    Well they are an evil organization so, yeah.
    ===
    “Or if Touma could cancel out Reaper indoctrination?”

    Depends on what he’s canceled out before. Reapers aren’t exactly psychic or telepathic in the traditional sense.

  17. Warlock Lowk February 23, 2015 at 3:19 pm -      #17

    “Except he’s immediately going to fail because he lacks the skills that Shepard has. He’ll die on the first or second actual combat mission, and I doubt he has the leadership capability of Shepard.”

    Actually they might not even consider him for normal military training. Remember how humanity almost pulled a spartan II to take peoples kids to train them.
    Though depending on where he might be accepted into the Grissom Academy. Then we’ve basically got another highschool anime filled with biotics and tech geniuses.

  18. Friendlysociopath February 23, 2015 at 3:32 pm -      #18

    I suppose the biggest question would be if Touma could manage to even pass through the origins. Each has its own problems that Touma would have to make it through to get to the main plot of ME.

    That aside, I don’t think he’ll make it past ME1. If he’s immune to magic- that artifact in ME1 probably won’t do anything to it. And ME2 is a giant guessing game since we don’t know how well Touma would take being resurrected.

  19. the_man_with The_Answers February 23, 2015 at 3:48 pm -      #19

    He would have to go through N7 training. Which I don’t think he’s going to do. N7 is for the hardcore of the hardcore. At BEST he gets into Grissom academy. Then dies when Sovereign shows up and releases the Reapers.

  20. Envoy February 23, 2015 at 6:01 pm -      #20

    @Ryder
    I read part one of the series and some of New Testament, saw the subs and dubs, there will never ever be a season three. The studio is too busy not making a third season to make a third season.

    Anything supernatural.

    The whole anti supernatural bit means he gets rid of luck as well, this somehow makes it so the odds get stacked against him so hard that they end up in his favor. He’d just wing the plot to win most of it.

  21. Riverlia March 10, 2015 at 10:20 am -      #21

    Frankly, the issue is it’s impossible to tell how his weird version of bad luck charisma will interact with various faction.
    His standard answer for politiking when it cross over to the side of stupidity is give a speech then punch the bastard in the face. The bastard/idiot then has a 50/50 chance of seeing things his way. If the opponent is a pretty girl, up that to 3/4 chance.
    The question is if something will actually get his arm, and what that chain of event might cause/release. Apparently his anti-supernatural arm was there to seal something downright nasty that can scare top tiers of his verse.

    Resurrect? Nah, he does not mind. He did not mind losing all the memories in his life pre volume 1.
