The Avengers: Age of Ultron Vs Star Wars: the Force Awakens

As 2015 begins, we must ask ourselves:

What are we looking forward too this coming year?

I know one thing: movies. I’m sure you all have watched the trailers for two of the most expected movies of 2015. Marvel’s next installment in the MCU, Avengers: Age of Ultron and the continuation of the Star Wars saga, the Force Awakens!

Which trailer was the most hype?

Which one did you like better?

What were you surprised about?

Which one are yo looking forward to the most?

Etc., etc.

Looking forward to both honestly. Also, when does Jurassic World come out?

I look forward to Star Wars, but I don’t like Tatooine…

    Thanks admin!

    —/-

I think Star Wars exited me more. That’s what my childhood was. I didn’t get into comic stuff till I was like, 12.

    ——-

I liked the Avengers trailer better though, because Ultron.

The Star Wars one surprised me with the lightsaber design.

And I’m pretty sure Star Wars was more hype.

I….I…Why do you do this to meeeeeeeeeeeeeee

…Avengers, I think? Yeah, Avengers. Just slightly.

Aaaaah, now I feel terrible for choosing one over the other.

  5. Darth Expert January 12, 2015 at 9:29 am -      #5

Age of Ultron trailer was better. But looking forward to star wars more. That lightsaber design doe…

This is an easy one for me. Star Wars all the way. I have much higher expectations from JJ Abrams after he did a great job rebooting Star Trek (minus the lens flare).

It also concerns me because of these high expectations, Star Wars won’t deliver. Compared to The Avengers, I have a much better chance of being blown away because I’m not anticipating that movie as much.

  7. Warlock Lowk January 12, 2015 at 9:58 am -      #7

Ha! Something tells me Admin saw the parody for Star wars.
    ===
For me its star wars. I love avengers but I wanna know what direction they went with SW. Are they going to keep to the action flip saber duals or are they going back to normal sword fights like the old movies. Is Boba Fett going to still be alive or is he getting replaced. What happened to Luke?

As to what suprised me. Dat Lightsaber.

  8. nsl98 January 12, 2015 at 10:04 am -      #8

    minus the lens flare).
    ———–

Oh, goodness gracious the lens flare. I hope in the next installment,it’s more toned down.

Wait a minute, what if it’s in Star Wars too?!!?

  9. OberHerr January 12, 2015 at 10:09 am -      #9

Star Wars got more hype for obvious reasons. Its Star Wars.

That being said, I enjoyed AoU more. Had more meat to it. I didn’t really get the whole hype of seeming the Millennium Falcon go, or the X-Wings over the water. Just seemed….meh. The Storm Troopers and lightsaber were cool though.

And eh, I kinda like the lens flare. Had a nice…flair…..to it…..

I’m more excited for Star Wars. There is more at stake. People have been waiting for this for ages, and it means more to me that it does well than that The Avengers do.

  11. Cassie Hack January 12, 2015 at 11:20 am -      #11

Avengers, I was never a Star Wars fan really save for like the Old Republic stuff, and the tabletop games. I do think Abrams has his hands full though, and hope he makes the fans happy. That lightsaber though…. yeah not a fan of the design. It seems a bit much. Of course this is Star wars where they had insane stuff like lightsaber whips.

  12. Hondo Moonrazor January 12, 2015 at 11:24 am -      #12

Looking forwards to Star Wars VII the most, But the Avengers looks cool as well.

  13. Friendlysociopath January 12, 2015 at 11:46 am -      #13

Most of this cane be summed up with- Avengers can show whatever they want in the trailer because everyone knows what’s going to happen, they just want to watch it for the ride.
Star Wars has to be somewhat secretive as it’s a much more story-based movie.

I’d have to say Age of Ultron gave out way more “hype” for the trailer just because the Star Wars one is trying to keep most of the plot a secret.
    Avengers doesn’t have this problem.

I’d have to say I liked the Avengers one more as well, just a lot more joy to be had from one trailer.

I didn’t think Captain America’s shield could break. The gaming club I’m an officer for all watched the trailer on one of the tv’s and people were flipping out over that.

  14. Praetor Prefect January 12, 2015 at 12:28 pm -      #14

Star Wars, muh childhood. I’m unsure about the volleyball droid, but I have high expectations from JJ, since he already made 2 Star Wars movies!

Jokes aside, I have more at stake with SW, if it’s terrible I will be disheartened. Can’t say the same for Avengers

  15. nsl98 January 12, 2015 at 12:51 pm -      #15

“I didn’t think Captain America’s shield could break. The gaming club I’m an officer for all watched the trailer on one of the tv’s and people were flipping out over that.”

    @Friendly

In the comics, the only way I remember Caps shield being broken was to break it on a molecular level. Ultimate Cap has a weaker shield though.

  16. Jolttra January 12, 2015 at 2:00 pm -      #16

I am a huge fan of both Marvel and Star Wars. That said, I’m gonna say I am just a,little more hyped for Age of Ultron. Ultron is one of the most powerful villains ever and the potential for this movie is astounding. I am hyped to see the new Star Wars movie, but really I’m more hyped about the flood of canon EU material that will follow. Would finally shut up all those people trying to say the UNSC or Citedel would solo the Empire because there isn’t nothing to support Star Wars in terms of feats.

“Which trailer was the most hype?”

There wasn’t too much in TFA trailer or at least not as much in AoU trailer.
    =
“Which one did you like better?”

AoU, by far. I mean c’mon Hulkbuster Iron Man vs Hulk, how more badass can you get?
    =
    “What were you surprised about?”

AoU: Cap’s shield breaking. Pinocchio being referenced.

TFA: Storm Troopers still being around. Somewhat the new lightsaber design, but didn’t surprise me too much cus of lightsaber whips and things like that.
    =
“Which one are yo looking forward to the most?”

Avengers Age of Ultron. By far.
    =
Side note, new Age of Ultron coming out later today at 8:30 P.M. Eastern Time.

Is it coming on after Agents of Shield?

  19. Glutinous-Bicarbonate January 12, 2015 at 3:19 pm -      #19

    All three.

    Star Wars!

    The Avengers!

    Jurassic World!

    Holy-Hype Trinity.

  20. Hermit January 12, 2015 at 4:24 pm -      #20

I usually wait for the DVDs to come out before I watch these movies, since I don’t really have time nor the money to go to the cinema directly.
    .
And I don’t live anywhere near a cinema, for that matter.
    .
That said, I’m more hyped for The Force Awakens. That was my childhood and the Star Wars films are one of the very few films that I have watched on the big screen.

  21. Private Khaos January 12, 2015 at 4:57 pm -      #21

Honestly I’m looking forward to the Avengers movie more than SW. The Avengers trailer just got me more hyped up for it

@nsl youtu.be/nOSgoawQ7DE Marvel has trailers for their trailers…

  23. GMoney January 12, 2015 at 6:53 pm -      #23

I’m more hyped for Star Wars, but I feel Age of Ultron will be better. Marvel just has the right formula figured out, and while I know many people have mixed feelings about Lucas, I don’t think anyone besides him can truly capture The spirit of Star Wars.

  24. nsl98 January 12, 2015 at 6:57 pm -      #24

“Marvel has trailers for their trailers”

    ——-

    @CH1

    Huh. Trailerception.

    ——

Side note, does anyone else feel like movie trailers now are too long? And sometimes and we get more excited for a new trailer than the actual movie?

  25. Darth Bombad January 12, 2015 at 8:37 pm -      #25

“Which one did you like better?”
Star Wars easily, AoU had a cool trailer but it was borderline on giving away too much.
Anymore (which we will get) and they’ll be crossing the line into spoiler territory.
TFA was perfect as a teaser, i hope they keep their marketing campaign mysterious.

“Which trailer was the most hype?”
Hype was pretty close with a slight edge for Star Wars, i’m still hyped for Ultron,
but i’m also still a little upset that Marvel cancelled their Runaways movie. :(

“Which one are you looking forward to the most?”
That’s a hard one i’m so torn buuuuuut…. Star Wars is probably more important to me.
Especially since i really liked the prequels, i have faith in JJ but also high expectations.

    @nsl98
“Side note, does anyone else feel like movie trailers now are too long? And sometimes and we get more excited for a new trailer than the actual movie?”
Yes that’s why i’m giving the nod to the Episode VII teaser.

I think Rebels might be contributing to that. Not a lot of impressiveness coming from that.

but i’m also still a little upset that Marvel cancelled their Runaways movie. :(

Wait. They were making a Runaways movie?!!? That would’ve been awesome! Wonder why they canceled?

I actually like Rebels…but yeah. Not to impressive.

    @nsl98
It was suppose to come out after The Avengers in 2012 but they decided to hold off
and focus everything on their big gun for that year.
After it was a hit they shelved Runaways to concentrate on Avengers related characters.

They still say that everyone at Marvel Studios (including feige) loves the script and the idea.
But there are currently no plans for it, everything is just leading to Avengers movies.

Its sad cause the director said he wanted a dark almost Godfather like feel.
With a cast of unknowns for the kids but a cast of awesome actors for The Pride.
I believe he said he wanted Denzel Washington level actors at the very least.

    (Edit)
I love Rebels but the Stormtrooper’s are crap, but that might just be Lothal. (a backwater)

  30. nsl98 January 12, 2015 at 9:13 pm -      #30

    @Bombad

Makes me wanna see the movie more now.

    ——-
Yeah, I was hoping the Stormtroopers wouldn’t be like the Droids in Clone Wars, but that’s too much to ask for Disney.

We’ll never see anything as seriously cool as gun toting animals again *sniffle*

  32. nsl98 January 12, 2015 at 9:40 pm -      #32

I love Ultrons voice. It’s so amazingly awesome! It fits his character so well, like he sounds bored that the puny mortals are daring to try against him.

  33. admin January 12, 2015 at 9:42 pm -      #33

Trailer looks cool. I will still go see this movie, but for me, Star Wars could reset the bar for Sci-fi epicness.

  34. admin January 12, 2015 at 9:44 pm -      #34

Of course, it’s James Spader, one of the best and under appreciated actors of our day.

  35. nsl98 January 12, 2015 at 9:47 pm -      #35

    @admin

Yeah, I feel like in recent years, like the last decade or so, Sci-Fi movies are becoming more popular. Just look at the new Star Treks, Guardians of the Galaxy, or Interstellar. All very good. For awhile, I was worried all media would just be Teen Supernatural stuff or Zombies. It’s nice to see more… variety, if you know what I’m saying.

    ——-

“Of course, it’s James Spader, one of the best and under appreciated actors of our day.”

His voice is just too good. He’s been waiting for this moment to take a Golden Globe

Holy crud, is that the new trailer?
    /
Nice to see more Hulkbuster suit in action.
    /
I’m Hyped about Avengers a little bit more.
    /
    I love both trailers equally.
    That is all.
    /
I was kind of surprised of the storm trooper helmet.
It looks a little bit unsettling, but that could be the lighting.
    /
Looking forward to a lot of Movies.

So, any one else notice Hulk killed two cops in the trailer? New Hulk incarnation? Hulk, Breaker of Cops? Also, Hulk buster looks like it might be getting owned in the movie, most of the Hulk vs Iron Man show Hulk kinda kicking his ass, or at least having the upper hand. All except when IM drags Hulk on the ground, which ends in Hulk kicking him off. Then there’s Thor covered in lightning then blasting it from his hands. Ermergerdimsohyped

  38. Tsubodai January 12, 2015 at 11:17 pm -      #38

I’m massively more hyped for Age of Ultron. It’s not that I think it will be a better movie (although it might be) – but I was a huge fan of the Vong war and thrawn Trilogy, and I DEMAND perfection from this star wars movie if it’s replacing that. Hard to hype when perfection’s the baseline.

The shipyards of bilbringi, the blockade of coruscant, Thrawn, the death of Chewbacca, Shedao Shai, Nas Choka, Tsavong Lah, Nen Yim, Jason and the Dhuryam, The death of Ithor, The fall of Coruscant… you need a lot of awesome to replace that.

Suppose the new avengers movie is a 8/10, and the star wars one is 12/10. Avengers will still have been a better deal, because the Vong war + Thrawn was at least a 7/10, so we only got +6/10 from the star wars movie. Less than +8/10 from Ultron.

P.S: I have no faith that star wars will even be 10/10, let alone 12/10.

Looked like Hulk was being controlled by Scarlet Witch. His eyes seem red…..

    “In the flesh….”

    Sick casting for Ultron’s voice/mo-cap….

And that Hulk Buster vs. Hulk fight….

“Looked like Hulk was being controlled by Scarlet Witch. His eyes seem red…..”

Was I the only person in the world who thought it was because IM fried his face, and not because of Scarlet Witch? Because that’s what I thought happened at first… But closer inspection shows IM didn’t do that…

“And that Hulk Buster vs. Hulk fight….”

So far, from all they’ve shown us it seems like Hulk’s had the upper hand, so I’m wondering if Hulk’s going to end up winning what are they going to have to stop him? Plus, how is anyone going to be ok with Hulk killing to cops in cold blood? UGH DAMNIT MARVEL I WANNA SEE MOVIE NAO

  41. Ragnorke January 13, 2015 at 8:39 am -      #41

If Hulk doesn’t kick ironmans ass, I will be disappointed.
I’m tired of them downplaying all my favourite characters.
Sure, you can’t make them planet bust and what not on the big screen… But… I still think people like Thor should get more respect movie wise.
He should be a force to be reckoned with, and not just someone that ironmans can go toe to toe with.

Aside from that, the Ultra trailer was fantastic.
The music, the dialogue… But I think they revealed a little too much.
I basically already know 70% of the plot.
This movie might restore my love for Marvel movies, since iv been disappointed by every single one aside from GotG.
It looks like this has a mature and gritty theme, rather than the cliche filled comedy crap of the others. To each their own.

I still DESPERATELY want a sentry movie.
It could be a pretty good solo/origin movie.
It could then be a crossover with Avengers, with the coming of the void.
He can then be used in WWH as the climax vs Hulk.
He can then be used in Seige (since we’re all already familiar with cinematic asgard) as the climax vs Thor.

    Make it happen!

  42. OberHerr January 13, 2015 at 9:45 am -      #42

They haven’t show the Vision at all, which I like. And they really haven’t shown much of Ultron at all. Especially how he fights. They haven’t shown much of how he is actually made, why he turns bad, and why/what Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver are even doing.

There are still a ton of unknowns, which I hope they keep until the movie releases.

And in the Incredible Hulk movie, Hulk kills quite a few people, or tries to. So I think this movie is harkening back to that a bit. And since his love-interest is kinda forgotten now…..I guess it’ll be a “the power of boners is stronger” *ding* moment.

And I guess Andy Serkis is Klaw. So….there is that. Plus a Black Panther set-up is supposed to happen.

I dunno, I’m excited. Still a ton of unknowns.

  43. Tails111 January 13, 2015 at 11:36 am -      #43

Avengers: AoU for sure. I LOVED the first film, I gave it a 10/10, my highest rated CBM ever, and this film looks even better.

I greatly enjoy the grittier, more desperate tone used for the two trailers released so far…you can feel how against the wall the heroes are.

Star Wars will be great, too, but I’m simply a bigger Marvel/MCU fan. And after how great Guardians and Winter Soldier were, I have literally no reason to believe that AoU will be anything less than almost perfect.

  44. Ragnorke January 13, 2015 at 12:44 pm -      #44

“Avengers: AoU for sure. I LOVED the first film, I gave it a 10/10, my highest rated CBM ever, ”

    …really?
The plot of the first movie just felt so irrelevant and forgettable.
In the end of the day, a single military nuke roflstomped lokis entire “army”… I dunno, it was quite pathetic. Nothing felt at stake.
It was just a giant colorful nerdgasm with the occasional joke or two to make you forget how terrible the plot really is.

    This definitely looks better.

“And they really haven’t shown much of Ultron at all. Especially how he fights.”

They showed the whole army of Ultrons though.

” Ultron is one of the most powerful villains ever and the potential for this movie is astounding.”

….if by “one of the most powerful villains ever”, you mean “barely in the top 500″, then yes.
He’s nowhere near high-tier as far as the comics are concerned.

  45. Glutinous-Bicarbonate January 13, 2015 at 3:32 pm -      #45

Andy Serkis looks ready to cap a bitch.

  46. OberHerr January 13, 2015 at 3:57 pm -      #46

He is probably in the Top 100 for Marvel, especially if we group together beings like the Celestials. Top 500 overall for comics? I could see that. 500 is a lot.

And the army of Ultrons, sure, but not much of them either. We don’t know a ton of how its going to go down. Sure, Ultron is made by Tony, likely turns evil for normal AI reasons, makes an army, they fight, he gets beaten somehow. But we don’t know HOW its gonna happen.

  47. Xornell January 13, 2015 at 10:13 pm -      #47

The Dodge Avengers, and I dunneven like Marvel CU that much. I had to hold back tears and vomit during the Star Wars promo. And admittedly the 2012 Avengers was pretty bitchin’. Plotholes and other stupid bullshit galore, but definitely one of the best movies of 2012. Pluss with JJ at the helm, you’d be lucky to see 30% of the scenes through all the lens flare.

“In the end of the day, a single military nuke roflstomped lokis entire “army”… I dunno, it was quite pathetic. Nothing felt at stake.”

Phantom Menace style. Were you there for the big fight about this? I rumbled a few geoffries for saying this…

    That all being said

Look at my funny may-mays, you guize.

Edit: Also 72-year old Harrison Ford. Do you guys not remember Crystal Skull, or?.. Oh, and 60-year old Carrie Fisher. Ew. Or 60-something year old Mark Hamil. If you’re not voicing the Joker, gtfo, Mark.
