Produced by the West and animated in the East by the TOEI Animation. While not strictly an anime due to being conceptualized over here, and being a child of the 80’s, it definitely shows its age, it is worth watching for one thing. The Mechanical Designs. The bizarre robots in this movie take on very strange transformations, rivaling the imaginations of their Japanese Super Robot contemporaries. Sadly, this imaginative outing failed at launch, as the toys routinely failed to resemble not just the robots, but any of their alt-modes as well. Often becoming little more than named space ships. Unpopularity with the toys has left us with only this movie collection of their animated shorts, and a brief marvel comic run. With well known voice actors already cast, if the toy line had lived up to the animation, who knows.. maybe we’d of had Michael Bay Robotix instead of Transformers?
