What does BankGambling Need?

What does BankGambling Need?

So, I’m finally getting past all the radiation treatments and getting my energy back.

I’ve had lots of time to think while recovering and had some ideas pop into my head as to the future of BankGambling.

But, being that I am only the curator of the site, I want to hear your ideas on what you think we should do. I don’t care anymore about making BankGambling “famous” on the web. I really hate all those sites where every 5 seconds an ad pops up, or some site will have a gallery of 20 pictures, and you have to click 20 times to see each picture. I know why these sites do that (to increase page views, which is what advertisers want).

I don’t care about that at all. I’m seriously considering removing all the ads from BankGambling. The money I used to make is way down, and I’ve always felt that it cluttered up the site. If someone wants to pay for sponsorship on the site, I might do that, but the more I think about it, I really want to remove them entirely.

But I wanted your take on what you want from the site. In the past we have done movie and video game reviews, trailer postings, opinion pieces, Baron Somebody’s awesome character stories and pretty much have tried many different ideas here (like the weekly recaps, and disqus).

I was pushing the youtube channel for a while, but there is a lot of work needed there, and it seems like many of you don’t want to see video matches. That’s just my perception, I could be wrong.

What so you readers want to see?

Weekly reviews of video games? Movies? Life? Science? Current events?

I’ve always wanted to have a “quick hits” section where it wouldn’t be a regular post, but maybe an area on the site that linked to interesting news or something cool that was outside the realm of debate. Like the recent discovery that there might be more planets in our solar system. I know we have intelligent people here that could talk about that.

What about other topics? Like sports, politics, music? I know they have shown up occasionally here, but what if they got more presence?

What about having weekly posts? Something like this:

Mondays: Universe battle
Tuesdays: Mecha Battle
Wednesdays: Duels
Thursdays: Group Battles

You get the idea. Right now I am open to ALL ideas. I’m even kicking around the idea of another site redesign. Expert has already given me a template for a new way to present battles, I think it looks cool – let me know if you want to see it.

What about merging BankGambling with BankGamblingtopia? Meaning, FPtopia would instead be located at something like factpile.com/forum.

What about a gallery section?
What about a paid section? I have no idea what would go in there, but it would restrict access to the general public.

How about a personalized experience based on your login? You could format the site to only show you matches that you pre select – so if you hate Master Chief, you would never see any topics that include him. And just the same could be applied for topics you want to see – anytime Hellsing is mentioned in a post or comment, you would get notified?

I’ll be reading and responding to this particular post for the entire month of December. All options will be considered with an open mind until December 25th. On that day, I’ll lock this post from comments and get started on implementing any and all changes suggested.

Huh. I’m really feeling that idea of weekly reviews of things. And the weekly posts thing would be really cool. I’m gonna keep thinking.

  2. sadot06 November 24, 2014 at 7:04 am -      #2

I actually like the ideas of merging the topia and having a specific fight type on a specific day. I’d also like breaking news pieces on nerd related topics like the reveal of a new comic event or film adaption. And science.

Also I’d like it if we were given a list of potential matches floating around in the non paid request ether and could vote on which one we want to debate. So like Friday or Sunday would be voted fight day.

  3. Private Khaos November 24, 2014 at 7:38 am -      #3

I really like the idea of filtering what you see on the site and being notified for when a character or franchise is mentioned. Also as someone who’s knowledge of the majority of characters and franchises that appear on this site is limited or I have no knowledge of at all, it’d be nice to filter out and be told of when one I know of is posted

  4. Stronghold November 24, 2014 at 7:50 am -      #4

What I think would be really cool is if there was a encyclopedia that you could add to about videogame characters, comic characters etc.

I also like the different schedule for posting different types of matches. The idea of ‘quick hits’ sounds interesting as well. I like science and I am quite good at it as well so the ‘quick hits’ could be very interesting.

  5. Private Khaos November 24, 2014 at 7:56 am -      #5

I have an idea if others like it. How about a section where fellow Facts can express their creativity like if they want to write a story and want to share ideas, ask for feedback, constructive criticism, etc. because as someone who is very imaginative I’d appreciate my fellow nerds and geeks helping me out with my writing and I’d love to help them in return with their ideas

  6. Darth Expert November 24, 2014 at 8:19 am -      #6

Maybe a BankGambling forum where Facts can discuss ideas and share feedback, a user created wiki where less knowing Facts can go to learn more about characters they’re debating for. Also a animation spot would be nice where a skilled animator can make animations on the most commented fights. Been lurking on the site for a while and I hope the expansion turns out great.

  7. SuperTengenToppaGurrenLagann November 24, 2014 at 8:32 am -      #7

Maybe a section for organizing characters by their powers or weapons. Also how about a power rating for the characters for more FP worthy matches ( or better stomps). Finally, make stomp awards.

  8. Sauroposeidon November 24, 2014 at 8:41 am -      #8

Video game reviews I think would be a good thing.

Having the topia as a forum here on BankGambling would make it more visible and accessible I think to new people. I know it’s linked here on the pile somewhere but I don’t really know where and it’s not very prominent.

I am interested in seeing what Expert has in mind.

Also, we DO need more Shatner on this site.

  9. Stronghold November 24, 2014 at 8:56 am -      #9

I think there should be a power scale for every character out of ten or twenty like SuperTengenToppaGurrenLagann mentioned.
    Eg. Darth Vader (17/20)
    Master Chief (4/20)

No offence if these examples make you angry.

  10. Friendlysociopath November 24, 2014 at 9:26 am -      #10

There’s already a BankGambling wiki, I’d like to see it more fleshed out with more characters added and better info for characters already on it (sources required of course). I’m personally willing to help with that- I think a team effort would be good.
Maybe every week assign a franchise that might have an upcoming battle and ask people to research it?
Rankings for attacks and such are pretty standardized across the internet-
Strength: building busting, city busting, hill busting
    Speed: Supersonic, hypersonic, superhuman
    and so on

We have a section of the forums for this purpose, share your stories, get critiqued and read other people’s stories
    BankGamblingtopia.com/viewforum.php?f=16

We do have a wikia, which I believe a few people are contributing to, and the more the merrier.
    BankGambling.wikia.com/wiki/Factpile_Wiki

By discussing and sharing ideas, I will assume you mean for matches, we also have a section for this on the forums.
    BankGamblingtopia.com/viewforum.php?f=99

Admin you can contact me about articles if you want, wouldn’t mind discussing that with you.

universal champion matches.like when u have star trek against some1 else u can make it a champion match instead of the whole universe and every ship in it fighting.u can have just 1 super ship from each side made using the best of everything available from their respective universes.i hope u feel better soon btw.

Being able to take CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM for any and all Past, Present and Future Events, and making sure Communications are Not going Shoddy all over the place?

I’m pretty sure this should be obvious, because as possibly good as the other suggestions above this one are, all that and more mean nothing if communication gets shoddy.
Some of the mods being more available will never hurt in the long run, either but when there’s a problem, sometimes it’s best to just assume that ALL SIDES may be in Deep Trouble unless there’s a bloody good explanation going on.

Also, Half of us are horrible at telling apart Constructive Criticism from Flaming Messages, all Big Sites die from mangled communication.

‘Poor Communication Kills, Mangled Communication Massacres,’ after all.

What about making sure whether or not The General Public actually views any such affairs as Justifiable or not, for that matter?
Otherwise it becomes Pointless Long Run-Wise.

Now there’s a good idea, we could also use more Universal Racing Matches or more Universal Olympics or something, and maybe matches pertaining to one’s Skill at their departments rather than any Direct Vs fight against each other, like with Sniping and other Sharp-shooting festivals and whatnot.

I’d hope we’d have the ‘decency’ to contemplate on crafting Brand New Match Types every day, because this is meant to prevent us from going Creatively Stagnant-on-site, which is another threat we worry about on a daily basis.

For Symbolism’s sakes, if we Have to do any more Universal Wars to the Death, too many of them need to have a sort-of Apocalyptic Feel mostly to display the Scale, Scope and Seriousness of the matter, really.
We could also use more Tag-Team Universe Wars as well.

  14. Ragnorke November 24, 2014 at 10:59 am -      #14

Merging the topia to the main site would be fantastic. Please please do that!

Also liking the idea of having each day of the week for a specific kind of match. Keeps a steady flow of matches that’ll keep all the kinds of debaters interested.

All the account Personalization options that you mentioned sound great too. If any of em can be added without too much trouble, it’d be pretty cool.

And finally, cheers to Admin for the dedication & commitment to the site!

  15. nsl98 November 24, 2014 at 11:05 am -      #15

I second that cheer. Admin should get a FP award for running the site all these years.

  16. Friendlysociopath November 24, 2014 at 11:09 am -      #16

    Thirded for cheer

  17. Sauroposeidon November 24, 2014 at 11:14 am -      #17

The wiki is not part of BankGambling however, and is not run by admin. It is some third party project. I don’t even know who runs it. The wiki should only be updated by Admin or a very small select group of people chosen by Admin.

Stronghold, we would need more than 20, considering how wide the power scale is.

Compare the mecha Demonbane to, say, a bulldog puppy. Both of which have been in matches on this site.

  18. Megaraptor18 November 24, 2014 at 11:22 am -      #18

@ Sauro At this time Hitman is de facto head of the Wiki at the moment if that answers your question.

  19. Guardian Dualgunner M1911A1 November 24, 2014 at 11:29 am -      #19

We, definitely need, more, Shatner, on Fact, Pile. It is, vital, to the site’s, survival, that we, include him in, more matches.

In all seriousness, whatever you decide to do with the site (save for giving it to Expert), I’m in full support of. It’s a great community you gathered, Admin.

  20. Rookie November 24, 2014 at 12:10 pm -      #20

I like the idea about voting which non-paid match should be posted. Of course this means that some kind of matches will probably never be posted that way (like for example all my future matches. Sad for me, but I must be honest. Others have simply better ideas) but overall this will be for the better. We just need a rule. We can vote, but we can’t tell our opinions about why we vote that way. Because otherwise it will just create chaos IMO.
Video game reviews… dunno. I love playing games and later watch funny reviews about games (in that order). But… dunno… I am not against that idea, just don’t see it as interesting idea.

    @Ragnorke

“And finally, cheers to Admin for the dedication & commitment to the site!”

    I support this.

  21. the_man_with The_Answers November 24, 2014 at 12:44 pm -      #21

“What so you readers want to see?

Weekly reviews of video games? Movies? Life? Science? Current events?”

I personally enjoy videogame and movie reviews on this site. But current event stuff seems more appropriate for news related websites.

“I’ve always wanted to have a “quick hits” section where it wouldn’t be a regular post, but maybe an area on the site that linked to interesting news or something cool that was outside the realm of debate. Like the recent discovery that there might be more planets in our solar system. I know we have intelligent people here that could talk about that.”

That would actually be pretty cool

“What about merging BankGambling with BankGamblingtopia? Meaning, FPtopia would instead be located at something like BankGambling.com/forum.”

I think that would be a great idea. I think it would make a lot more crossover between primarily “Topia” and “Mainland” members.

“What about a paid section? I have no idea what would go in there, but it would restrict access to the general public.”

Obviously lots and lots of strippers, an open bar, and all the fine dining you could imagine.

“How about a personalized experience based on your login? You could format the site to only show you matches that you pre select – so if you hate Master Chief, you would never see any topics that include him. And just the same could be applied for topics you want to see – anytime Hellsing is mentioned in a post or comment, you would get notified?”

Sounds pretty cool to me. I’d probably use it to selectively ignore anime matches.

“I like the idea about voting which non-paid match should be posted”

I like that idea as well. Maybe one day out of the week is the “Piler’s choice” match where Admin picks what he thinks are the 5 best matches submitted that week and puts them up for the poll.

  22. LadyRamkin November 24, 2014 at 1:39 pm -      #22

Maybe you could have tournaments, several matches go up over a couple of months. With a set post limit. If the post limit is reached without a winner being determined, admin or someone admin selects reads the entire match then picks a winner. All the winners are then moved up to the next bracket, ect until you have the finals which has no post limit.

  23. Commander Cross November 24, 2014 at 2:11 pm -      #23

    @LadyRamkin at #22

That kind of idea could be fun, what about Group Combat that involves 5 or so people in it?

Also for what it’s worth, I did went with the kind of idea where anyone would be allowed to vote for which fights ought to be posted a few years back, it didn’t really seem to launch until recently.

    @Rookie at #20

If I find any of your fights worth seeing, I’d vote for them personally, myself.

  24. SuperTengenToppaGurrenLagann November 24, 2014 at 2:13 pm -      #24

“save for giving it to Expert”
How about we have one week where Expert controls BankGambling, however, I can already imagine the consequences of such an act.

  25. Friendlysociopath November 24, 2014 at 3:21 pm -      #25

    @LadyRamkin
I actually meant to suggest that idea at some point, it’s what I do on my RPG page on Facebook- except here it’s more facts and less fanboy.
    (God-DAMN the fanboys ~shudder~)

    Weekly Joke matches.

Only if we can include various Hair Stylists and Costume Designers or the like, or maybe Pie Fights while Music from various Music Bands are playing.
Some Splice Battles CAN be funny, but it depends on WHAT is being Spliced with WHAT for instance.

  28. Aelfinn November 24, 2014 at 6:46 pm -      #28

A lot of these sound like good ideas, but I’d just like to say that I’m glad you’re feeling at least a little better, Admin.

  29. admin November 24, 2014 at 9:19 pm -      #29

I see lots of great ideas here that I like!

Feeling much better now that I’m not getting blasted by radiation everyday.

    Let’s keep the ideas rolling!

  30. nsl98 November 24, 2014 at 9:47 pm -      #30

    @Admin
That’s good to hear that you’re recovering smoothly!

So would we, as Facts, be able to vote on the ideas in this thread and then have one of the mods give you the result as part of your Dec. 25 review? Cuz if so, I like that idea of having specific types on specific days. And the number ranking, only the # would have to be higher than 20.

  31. admin November 24, 2014 at 9:56 pm -      #31

    To Everyone:

I will compile the list of all the ideas that get suggested on this post. You’ll then be able to vote on what you want the most. The voting will results will get tallied and then I’ll get started on the changes.

    Make sense?

  32. Rookie November 25, 2014 at 12:09 am -      #32

    @admin

    “Make sense?”

    Sounds good to me.

  33. Friendlysociopath November 25, 2014 at 12:24 am -      #33

    Sounds efficient

  34. Darth Bombad November 25, 2014 at 12:36 am -      #34

Glad your feeling better Admin! :) i really like the tournament idea.
And the youtube matches would be cool if the results were animated.
Of course we’d probably have to pay you a bit more for that.
Unless someone here knows how and would be willing to do it for free.

(Edit) I think we have enough Shatner.

  35. Friendlysociopath November 25, 2014 at 12:50 am -      #35

“Unless someone here knows how and would be willing to do it for free.”

Technically speaking it’s relatively simple. Just time consuming as all hell. At least for a 1v1. Group battles would be murder, and universe battles would be out of the question.

I mean, I’m taking classes to do exactly that- so while I can’t manage it yet, I do hope to be capable of it in the future. And I would gladly do so.

  36. Stronghold November 25, 2014 at 6:20 am -      #36

A friend system would be really cool. That you could friend people and receive a notification when they post something.

Is there an app for this? If there isn’t that would be cool as well…

  37. Stronghold November 25, 2014 at 7:06 am -      #37

It would be really helpful and cool if we a had a photo gallery. It could help people by giving them pictures if they cant access/find (or have no time) any pictures of their chosen character.

  38. Darth Expert November 25, 2014 at 8:54 am -      #38

    Love you admin!

  39. Rorschach November 25, 2014 at 10:09 am -      #39

I am welcome to vote on the changes that we deem appropriate for the site.

It’s been a long time. We’re all just pieces that make up the Pile, and, now more than ever, if we want to say something to help the Pile in it’s update, we should do so.

I’m glad you’re feeling better Admin. Thank you for running the site for as long as you have. It’s been so long, but it’s been good.

I really liked the Ancient BankGambling video or whatever it was called. It actually does bring up a valid point, that so much of BankGambling’s past is lost in the obscurity of hundreds of threads. Maybe the BankGambling Timeline should be filled out a bit more, before there is no one left that even remembers what happened here.

The voting for matches option may influence better battle suggestions. It may influence people to think a bit and add more to the suggestion, so that the Pilers aren’t trying to decide among themselves what they should use.

The merge of the Mainland and the Topia may be a good decision for us, but, we have to consider the people of the Topia before we make a decision here.

  40. batman3.14 November 27, 2014 at 10:25 pm -      #40

    Happy Thanksgiving!

I do like the idea of merging Topia and BankGambling, even though it might take a lot of work. Also, the people of Topia might not love this idea.

I think it would be cool to revisit some of the old BankGambling duels, e.g. Boba Fett vs Master Chief. It would be interesting to afterwards compare and contrast modern BankGambling vs ancient BankGambling.

Also, separate to the above paragraph, voting for matches would be nice as well. I feel that some matches don’t get enough comments, so voting would help reassure more comments.

One thing, don’t take on multiple changes at one time- take one at a time. Quality over Quantity

    Congrats on feeling better!

  41. Commander Cross December 4, 2014 at 2:21 am -      #41

    So where were we?

May we recommend doing a thread that actually goes to pay tribute and honor the respects of those who are lost to us, and what we must do to stay together Without disrespecting the ideas of the people giving out the ideas to begin with?

I’d want to honestly be allowed to pay my respects for so long as such a thread is active, let’s say until the 25th-26th of December 2014 by all means?

I have honest reasons behind doing so, and if the thread ever gets done, anyone who disrespects the spirit of the thread will have to hazard a 1-week temporary account ban in fact.

We can talk more about the rules if anyone else wants in, I’m all ears if the head-of-site is.

  42. Masonicon December 6, 2014 at 10:01 pm -      #42

how about matches where the characters are given power-ups that their source material selves didn’t use?

  43. Commander Cross December 6, 2014 at 10:23 pm -      #43

    @Masonicon at #42

Y’know, that’s a bloody good point too, a good idea that needs more work but I say it has promise.

There’s also Splice Battles to go contemplate while we’re at it.

  44. the_man_with The_Answers December 6, 2014 at 11:29 pm -      #44

“before there is no one left that even remembers what happened here.”

I’ll be around for a long time.

“I think it would be cool to revisit some of the old BankGambling duels, e.g. Boba Fett vs Master Chief. It would be interesting to afterwards compare and contrast modern BankGambling vs ancient BankGambling. ”

You can always go back and start the debate back up. It’s still there.

“how about matches where the characters are given power-ups that their source material selves didn’t use?”

That comes down to the people suggesting the matches. Have an idea? Send it it.

  45. Ellie Williams December 7, 2014 at 2:46 am -      #45

Please give out more BankGambling awards. I like all your suggestions, but please keep the BankGambling YouTube Channel. Ask an animator to animate some of the matches with BankGambling awards, starting with Samus Aran vs Master Chief. Post them on the YouTube Channel, and you’ll see lots of hits.

  46. the_man_with The_Answers December 7, 2014 at 4:53 am -      #46

    Animation isn’t cheap

  47. Rookie December 7, 2014 at 7:01 am -      #47

We need more mecha matches. They are extremly rare to appear.

  48. LadyRamkin December 13, 2014 at 6:59 am -      #48

We need more “matches” that lead to the kind of discussion currently present in “What If…Link & Cloud Strife Kissed?”

  49. Ragnorke December 13, 2014 at 7:23 am -      #49

I’m kind of liking Ellies idea.

Any of you seen the Screwattack battle channel on YouTube?
It uses pretty cheap 2D video game sprite animations.

How about making a video on all of the (balanced) matches that have been awarded?

Quickly going over posted feats and defining moments in the debate, and then showing an animated fight.
With a link to the actual BankGambling site debate Ofcourse.

Would likely get alot more people involved in the site, and would help the YouTube channel strive.

  50. Xander XT December 17, 2014 at 9:19 pm -      #50

Do what my girlfriend said. Her idea about animated fights is one of the best ideas I’ve ever heard of!

  51. LadyRamkin January 19, 2015 at 5:28 am -      #51

as Ragnorke said, a BankGambling debate is basically a screw attack death battle except with out the animation, maybe you could contact they guys that make death battles, give them some of the more successful debates and then they animate the results.
