Perhaps one of the more interesting matches to appear on the site, here come all of the dragons known from all literature and myths going up against the powerful and almighty unicorns of legend.
The fight takes place on Earth.
Which side would win?
Dragons are winged lizards. Unicorns are horses with horns. Plus dragons can fly so this one goes to dragons at first glance
I side with the dragons, specifically the Asian ones, they have some cool stories.
The dragons can just fly and kill the unicorns with talons, fire or even sheer weight.

(Sorry, forgot to add this to my previous comment)
Unconquered Sun+Ebon Dragon+Oramus (Exalted)+Noble(s)/Imperator of dragons (Nobilis)=
Dragons win.
Unicorns can fly too. That said I know little else about them except they fart rainbows and Lord Voldemort drank their blood to extend his life.

Omnipotence ftw
I says literature so that means every dragon including smaug alduin, deathwing etc. and also dragons from legend like in Beowulf all this together means that all the unicorns will be is a squishy mess on the floor
Would the Hydra count as a dragon?
–
Not that the dragons need ANOTHER advantage…
–
OMG!!! Look at this webpage. (IK it is Wikipedia)

I am sure we are overlooking some incarnation of unicorn that can grant wishes or something. I mean, there are TONS of fantasy universes out there that could contain unicorns.

“Unicorns can fly too.”

A pegasus can fly. Unicorns don’t…
Aren’t Pegasus just a subspecies of unicorns?
Here are some websites about unicorns. Though my opinion still remains unfazed…

I think that Pegasus is one of the children of Medusa. The unicorn I believe is a different family. I think the unicorn can only fly if the two were crossbred which is almost impossible because no one has ever caught a unicorn.
–
The dragons will freaking win because of one dragon. The hydra. I want to see the unicorns try to destroy the heads! One story even says that one of the hydra’s heads was immortal! (www.draconika.com/legends/hydra.php)
–
Dragons got all angles covered.
–
(Sry if I’m double posting a lot. I really enjoy this)
There are unicorn pegasus hybrids. I don’t remember their names though.

I think a unicorn pegasus hybrid is called a Winged Unicorn.
@sadot09
–
I know about the WInged Unicorn but I was talking about the non-hybrided unicorn. Plus could a flying unicorn or two still defeat a Hydra?
@macrostheblack

I didn’t fully read your comment (#6) but I read Smaug and I remembered you could use modern literature because it didn’t say anything about ancient literature!
–
The Dragon team keeps getting more and more powerful (LOL)
–
(I’m posting WAY too much aren’t I?)
Dragons wins. Far too manu and far too many different powers.

What’s that dragon in Norse mythology that symbolizes the end of the world if it takes its tail out of its mouth? Isn’t it Ouroboros or something? And aren’t there dragons the size of planets?
I know that I am like a Hydra fanboy but the dragons got an almost unkillable dragon. Hercules was one of the only ones who as killed the Hydra. Maybe even the only one who has. What hope do the unicorns have?
…Do Rand and LTT count? 😛

YAY! We have a gumless dragon form the How To A Dragon book series! YAHOOOOOOOOO!
LOL!!!
Highest end for Unicorns I’ve heard probably would be the Witcher’s dimensional jumping, time travelling, near-omnipotent wish-granting Unicorns.
.
Not quite on the same level as fictional dragons like Ferrovax, Nicol Bolas or Akatosh, or some of Exalted’s big guns. Or even of mythological dragons like Bahamut or Nidhoggr.
Always I want to be with you….
Given how threads like this normally go… Where are all the Unicorn-Dragons? 😆
Robot Unicorn solos
Dragons have the Bakunawa, a massive beast who’s main diet consists of moons. I’m serious, this is a thing. All arguments for Unicorns are now invalid.
–
www.mythicalcreaturesguide.com/m/page/Bakunawa
This thread is actually really interesting because there are so many different incarnations to look at for both sides. It’s exciting!
Isn’t robot unicorn FTL? Chromatic light is created by its wake.
That being said Mtg planeswalker dragon NLF ftw.
I recall several stories of Dragons that consume the world/Sun; and they weren’t all metaphorical either. High Fantasy brings some epic dragons to the table.
+1 Dragons
One example:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAZ4B4Cwwjg
This dragon merely by existing is causing that world to literally fall apart.
As seen several times here, although the exact clip I want I cannot find.

Off the top of my head, Jormungandr, Niohoggr, and Fafnir from Norse mythology are all called dragons. Jorm is the serpent that reaches around the world and has venom capable of killing gods, Nio is just a really big dragon of the dead, and Fafnir is… I think he’s just a big dragon.
–
Also, I know there are D&D Dragons that know magic, so that mess is included in here.
–
So are all the different Bahamuts from Final Fantasy, including the ones that can strike with pinpoint accuracy from outer space.
Bahamut is a Dragon God iirc( not Final Fantasy)
I stand corrected, FF7 has TWO Bahamuts that can strike from outer space.
–
@SuperTengenLongName
Yeah, I know that- just thought I’d mention them.
Then again, the description says literature and myths, so I’ve been foolish in my claims as I’m not sure any of them count.
“What’s that dragon in Norse mythology that symbolizes the end of the world if it takes its tail out of its mouth?”
–
Jörmundgand is a snake, and a child of Loke (or Loki), and is destined to kill Tor (or Thor) in a deadly battle.
–
Nidhöggr is the dragon that is gnawing on the root of the tree on which both middle-earth and Valhalla lies. When he has gnawed through it Ragnarök begins…
@Friendlysociopath
I didn’t mean it like that. I meant that dragons have 2 gods that on their side. Bahamut and … uhm…. What was it called again. Nevermind the second ones name.
Durgons for the win.
And…
–
Damn you Friendlysociopath, you stole my idea AND my vid!
-SuperTengenToppaGurrenLagann”

–
Speaking of which… how many unicorn gods/avatars are there? I vaguely remember 3ish. But Dragon gods? uh… Bahamut, Tiamat, Sardior, Io, Paladine, Takisis, and on and on and on
I know at least 15 dragon gods (or beings equal in power to a god); they win, no sweat.
Well if there are omnipotents dragons and unicorns then it kind of evens out right?
@Ammo
I believe the way it works is the side with more omnipotents win in that area
Hehe dude… one omnipotent can fight infinite omnipotents. Greater numbers means nothing to an omnipotent.
Omnipotents on both sides stalemate each other, regardless of number. They cannot be harmed, they cannot fall. This is why we typically ask that omnipotents be excluded.
I was actually going to try arguing for the unicorns until I remembered what dragons bring to the table, the one that first came to mind was DnD’s joke space dragon that eats wealthy worlds or something. Followed by Bolas at his prime as a multiversal dragon god, Tiamat and everything named earlier.
–
On the Unicorn side, you have the one from the Witcher, the occasional capable unicorn in DnD, unicorns from FableHaven and other unimpressive fiction unicorna. According to google you also have Chinese mythos with scant detail and MLP unicorns, which then according reddit, one of which is capable of traveling time and space?
–
+1 Dragons.
Whats the deal with the unicorn from the witcher? Can we get any more details about that?
Does Dragon Gundam count? Does Gundam Unicorn Count?

Omnipotence ftw”

This…….. just made my day.
The Dragon team will win this for a couple of reasons:
–
Sheer size
–
Dragons are a lot more massive than a unicorn and dragons can use this to their advantage by flopping onto a unicorn.
–
Health
–
The average dragon’s health I would guess would be the same as two average unicorn’s health.
–
Pls add or take things from this list…
@Stronghold
9 out of ten dragons have some sort deadly breath
I agree @SuperTengenToppaGurrenLagann.
–
About 8/10 – 9/10 of dragons have some sort of harmful breath.
Just to cement a victory, here’s Bahamut Fury in action
www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=w8VwaEv3z1M
–
That’s got to be death for most of the unicorn forces.
You know, I almost feel sad for those unicorns. Almost.
“The average dragon’s health I would guess would be the same as two average unicorn’s health.”
–
…. what the fuck does that even mean?
…. what the fuck does that even mean?

I think he means in the amount of damage they can take before dying. Dragons tend to have better feats for surviving attacks. Almost every story I know of that has unicorns also has unicorns die in them, or at least the concept is mentioned.
Does this include How to train your dragons? All of them? Alphas can give a little TP maneuver to some of them.

Aren’t dragons traditionally killed by a single sword strike? Usually to the throat, their one weak spot.
Aren’t dragons traditionally killed by a single sword strike? Usually to the throat, their one weak spot.
–
That does tend to be a weak spot- but that’s more akin to a critical hit than typical damage. Punching a human in the throat will kill him, punch him anywhere else and he’d likely live and require multiple punches.
–
Many dragons do not possess that weak spot anyways. I know the Dragons from The Saint of Dragons require to be stabbed through the heart after casting a specific spell with their death-name in it to kill permanently; those dragons also can use magic.
Unicorns just don’t have enough of the public love to stand against dragons.
@Shgon #21
Lol…. THAT Dragon solos….
But seriously, dragons ROFLstomp.
