This is Ragnar fighting
www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGTKVHlYvSA
And this
www.youtube.com/watch?v=srqfZ5nMwE0
Starting at 3:30 is John snow.
In terms of skill Ragnar seems more impressive but John has the better weapon.
Oh, there once was a hero named Ragnar the Red
Who came riding to Whiterun from ole Rorikstead
–
And the braggart did swagger and brandish his blade
As he told of bold battles and gold he had made
–
But then he went quiet, did Ragnar the Red
When he met the shield-maiden Matilda, who said;
–
“Oh, you talk and you lie and you drink all our mead
Now I think it’s high time that you lie down and bleed!”
–
And so then came clashing and slashing of steel
As the brave lass Matilda charged in, full of zeal
–
And the braggart named Ragnar was boastful no more—
When his ugly red head rolled around on the floor!
How’d you get more skill for Ragnar out of that?
–
Jon Snow is far more skilled with a sword that Ragnar, he trains against several of the Night Watchmen at the same time because nobody can beat him solo.
Jon Snow’s nothing special to be honest. Quite skilled for his age, indeed, but nothing too great.
–
” he trains against several of the Night Watchmen at the same time because nobody can beat him solo.”
–
Because everyone in the nightswatch is known for being lazy useless fuckers.
Ragnar has been into more real battles then Snow and his fighting style is often dirty, with a mixture of low blows or grapples that favor the axe. However, most weapons in Ragnar’s armory are early Viking age and are proberly therefore iron and maybe steel (assuming the sword he has near the end is worth a shit) so he might get suprised when Valyrian steel makes short work of his weapons and light armor.
Lol at Ragnar’s sword just snapping in half against a wooden shield at 1:09 on Belis’s video.
Valyrian Steel would just slice through most of Ragnar’s equipment. Jon’s also wearing armour

.
Jon’s fought Wildings, ice zombies and immortal snowmen. He’s been in plenty of battles, up to the point where any differences in experience isn’t significantly effecting either combatant. And I’m pretty sure Wildings fight dirty too.
–
Going by the videos, Jon is however FAR faster, which is impressive, considering Longclaw’s supposed to be a bastard sword and thus longer and heavier than the standard longsword.
.

.
Jon’s considered one of the better swordsmen in the Night’s Watch, even before most of the Watch got massacred at the Fist of the First Men.
I’l side with Ragnar for now, but Jon have really dangerous sword though.

Ragnar had a leg injury here btw so this is not him in his prime.

–
The sword makes direct contact with the domed iron boss of the shield. You know, the iron thing in the middle that was designed to either trap or break swords or other weaponry.
–
*Jon’s fought Wildings, ice zombies and immortal snowmen.*
–
Ragnar has been fighting, Balts, Norsemen, Saxons and Franks. When it comes down to human versus human experience, Ragnar is going to have the edge in it.

The swordplay in GoT is dissapointing tho. If the way they fight in the series is any indication then Ragnar is going to be faster and dirtier. Problem is, I am basing my image of GoT swordplay from the series. Are their feats more impressive in the books and if yes don’t forgot to give a spoiler warning if it’s ahead of the series please.
–
I apologize for the quality but this fighting video shows Ragnar fighting in a better condition then the first video:

–
At 4:03 he easily takes down 3 enemies focused on him in rapid succession.
–
The biggest obstacle for Ragnar will as mentioned before be Jon’s sword. A direct clash with that will at the very least damage Ragnar’s iron age equipment badly.
This fight’s potentially Really Cool, and while it could go either way, I can’t recall how often did Ragnar had to deal with Supernatural Entities, something tells me that Jon Snow might have had to fight such beings more often than Ragnar did.
Bummer that, I wouldn’t mind a Cameo role from The likes of High King Odin, Thor, The Original Loki* or even the Lady Freya/Freyja for that matter.
1.) (Yes, I’m well-aware that The Original Loki’s Namesake is in ‘Vikings’, but aside from being some kind of Wild Card with some kind of importance, it doesn’t quite feel the same at the moment.)
Yayyy! another of my matches got posted, thanks Admin.
I’m siding with Ragnar for now, since Jon had trouble with Karl.
He just wasn’t prepared for that down and dirty fighting.
–
But he did better against the Thenn, so it could go either way.
And he has that sword, it definitely gives Jon an….edge.
If Ragnar can disarm John then he wins, pure and simple. However, Johns sword is definitely tough enough to trash anything Ragnar has given enough hits.
Honestly, I can see Ragnar rushing John, taking one hit on his shield, then forcing a grapple.
Ragnar fights dirty; he doesn’t fight like the people Jon trained against fight. I don’t know how much experience Jon actually has against Wildlings, I’ve only seen the show, but he was definitely having issues dealing with that Wildling commander. I think that Ragnar’s tricks and foreign fighting style would throw Jon off and that Jon’s style (again, I’ve only seen the show) wouldn’t serve him well. Plus, I think Ragnar would be stronger than Jon because of his lifestyle as compared to Jon’s on the Night’s Watch, so he’d have further advantage in a grapple.
“He trains against several Night’s Watchmen”
–
He is actually being used to train THEM to fight with more skill; since none of his opponents were ever actually trained before the Wildmen, that example is a rather pointless comparison of his combat skills versus Ragnar’s-it’s like saying “the Mountain trained to fight Oberyn with the help of the King’s Landing villagers”.
–
Throughout both series, Ragnar shows himself to be a much more decisive, capable warrior than Snow and never hesitated even when pressed into disadvantageous positions. Ragnar is a dirty fighter with years of actual combat experience AND a lifetime of strict Norse training; Snow has had formal fancy-pantsy training that is all well and good against someone that follows the general principle of his training. In actual fights, he has less experience than Rob Stark (though we all saw that meant shit when he died-but still!) and he is too stuck in his own code of honor to fight like Ragnar (plus some of the swings are too wide in the show).
–
All in all, Ragnar has this fight even with Jon’s superior weapon.
